If you’ve been following our twitter (@IGGPPCHQ) or FB page you will know that this year we are trying something new.
From Saturday August 16th to Sunday 24th August we are going to be hosting an online summer camp full of fun activities, games, seminars, crafty tutorials and more!
Originating from a twitter conversation between a few of our members and HQ we decided to make the idea of a summer camp for iggles a real thing! As we are worldwide what better way to run it than online?!
So far we have in the pipeline:
- Special Camp Photo Challenges
- Film Watch-a-Long (to be decided by a poll later)
- Games: board, RPG and quizzes!
- Late night G+ hangouts to tell ghost stories
- Jane Austen Letter Writing Challenge hosted by Kai Charles
- The Visual Language of Comics webinar presented by Mara White
- Introduction to Copy Writing webinar presented by Lydia Douglas
- The Biology of Zombies webinar presented by Mariel Mohns
- Creating and Developing an Online Business webinar presented by Prudence and the Crow
- Ballet Stretches for Everyday Life webinar presented by Katie Rose Cunin
- Introduction to Freelancing webinar presented by Williesha Morris
- Crafty Tutorials including: How to make your own plush bears (by Helen aka @NerdishMum), pinback buttons (by Toni aka @LttleHouseCraft), camp food and friendship bracelets (by the HQ Staff)
- Craft Club Challenges (including House specials) presented by Noxy
- How To Create an RPG Character Tome tutorial by Emy
- Morgan Matson’s ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’ book review and giveaway presented by Karen Ellison
- Online Tabletop Game Tournament orchestrated by Sarah aka AdventGeekGirl
- ….and some other things that are being kept under wraps…for now!
As well as fun stuff for us to do we’re also working with iggles Joanna and Leah on a couple of cool projects to help us pay it forward and give back something good into the world! (More details on this to follow later!)
While we’re planning a host of other activities, even between 8 of us we can’t do it all! That’s where you come in! Here’s how you can help:
- Can you teach a crafty tutorial?
- Are you knowledgeable on a subject that you could give a webinar on? (i.e. programming, comics, films, getting into illustration, science, gender issues, setting up your own business, calligraphy, geek baking)
- Could you organise an activity? (i.e. online scavenger hunt, photo challenge, quizzes)
- Have you got some ideas for a theme day with appropriate activities?
- Could you donate a prize for a competition or activity? Or sponsor an event?
- Do you have an idea for something different that we haven’t mentioned?
If the answer to any of these is yes and you want to get involved, get in touch! Send us an email to our usual address (info@geekgirlpenpals.com) telling us what you want to do!
If you want to join the conversation on twitter use the tag #IGGPPCamp! We can’t wait to hear what you all have to say about camp!
Love,
Team HQ
