Today we’re going to learn how to make your own leaf shaped trinket tray with clay and a leaf!
Supplies: Leafy Trinket Tray
- Clay
- Leaf
- Knife
- Jar or bowl with a round base
- Newspaper or parchment to protect your work area
- (Paint and sealer if needed)
Instructions
Prep your area with newspaper or parchment paper. Roll your clay out flat, make sure its evenly spread, and that its not too thin. Take your leaf and press it into the clay. If you have something to roll over it to make sure the leaf is well printed into the clay. Then use a knife to cut around the leaf. Gently remove the leaf from the clay to reveal the cool pattern! During this time go over the edges with your fingers to make sure everything is smoothed out.
For air dry clay simply round the edges around your jar or bowl of choice to for the curved edges. Make sure that you have a decent bottom for the tray to sit on once it has dried. Let it dry according to your package. Once dried, paint and decorate it as you like and don’t forget to seal it!

For even bake clay, make sure that your bowl or jar or mug is oven safe! Put tinfoil down and carefully place your clay down so to avoid added texture from the tinfoil. Once you get it to where you want it and making sure that there is a decent bottom to the tray to sit on, let it bake according to the package directions. Once it cools, remove it from the tinfoil, and paint and decorate it as you like before sealing it!

Enjoy your trinket tray or whatever you want to use it for! I’m actually going to use mine as a spoon rest for my kitchen.

Psst. Hey, you. Yeah, you… what would you say if I told you there was a troop that enjoyed the…darker side of the botanical world? The twisted vines growing on Four Shadow Island (which is probably haunted and definitely off limits)…the flowers that are beautiful but hold secrets…the magical world all around us, hidden in plain sight? You look like the kind of person who might enjoy what’s hidden in our secret garden. So, what do you say? Grab your grimoire, and head on over to the greenhouse of Troop Thorn.
