August’s Iggles Create doodle theme is all about the 80s! To pair with that, IggleStitch is showing you everything you need to make your own PacMan cross stitch bookmark. 8-bit games were (and still are) super popular. Fortunately for us, they are also perfect for cross stitching! This pattern is on Easy mode, for newbies and advanced stitchers alike!

IT’S DANGEROUS TO GO ALONE! TAKE THIS.

First you will want to save or print the pattern from HERE. The pattern is 73 stitches on the long side and 22 stitches on the short side so I like to use a single thread without a knot to mark where the corners of the pattern are. This thread will be removed later. You will want to position your pattern with some extra fabric on either side of the length. On one length you will need the same size excess as your pattern. This will be the back of your bookmark when you are done stitching. Check out the photo to see an example.

Once you’ve figured out where your pattern will go, you can start stitching! This pattern is repetitive and very easy. I used three individual strands of floss for my 14 count Aida. This gave it a full, bold look. If you use a different count fabric, you might want to use a different amount of threads according to your preference.

After you’re done stitching, fold the excess material on the length edges back behind your work. This will hide your backside and makes a sturdier bookmark. See the photo below on what it looks like folded. At this point you can iron the folds if you want, but its up to you. After the fabric is folded, cut the short ends to the desired length. Leave room for your border stitching.

Once you’ve folded the excess fabric, remove your corner guide thread and sew around the edges with a whip stitch with two strands of your accent color. This will secure your folds and help keep the edges from fraying. Plus it looks nice!

GAME OVER: your bookmark is done!

And you’re done! You did it!
