This craft is as simple and peaceful as a day on a deckchair at the beach! It’s the perfect way to fill up a bit of space in your journal, decorate a postcard, or just enjoy some meditative mermaidy drawing.

SUPPLIES

Pen
Paper
Coloured pens/pencils (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1) Draw your first row of mermaid scales. Make sure they’re roughly the same size, and make them big enough to fit your patterns inside.

Step 2) Draw your second row of mermaid scales, offset so they fit between the ones above. Then…

Step 3) …fill out the rest of the scales, alternating between the two positions.

Step 4) An optional step – colour in your scales. You could use one colour for all the scales, block colours for rows (like I’ve done), or a complete mix!

Step 5) Draw patterns in each of your scales. Take your time and enjoy this stage! You could do a totally new pattern for each scale, or mix and match a few favourites. When coming up with your patterns, experiment with mixing different line thicknesses, shapes, and directions. Here are some ideas:
– Stripes
– Spots and dots
– Stars
– Hearts
– Swirls
– Grids
– Zig zags
– Beachy shapes like fish or waves

When your doodle is complete, make sure to share it with your fellow campers on Discord or social media!
