By Troop Kaiju

On an early morning walk around camp after a long night of storms, you see something strange. On an outcropping overlooking the lake through a break through the trees, you see a large figure moving through the water. Luckily, you have your camera on hand! Snap a quick photo before the figure swims (or flies!) off and head to the craft cabin to develop it!
The goal of this paint-along is to create a picture of a kaiju in the distance, similar to the blurry photos of the Loch Ness Monster. In the tutorial I am using watercolor paints, but you can use whatever medium works best for you.

SUPPLIES
- an appropriate canvas for whatever paints you use
- paints (blues, greens, browns, black and white in particular)
- paint brushes, various
- pencil (for sketching out the image)
- something to use as a pallet
INSTRUCTIONS
1. The first thing that develops is the background. Because its early morning, the water and the sky will be a similar color, just mix the color for the lake a little darker. Paint the top 2/5 of the canvas with the color you’ve chosen for the sky, and the bottom 3/5 with the color you’ve chosen for the lake.
2. As the picture continues to develop you start to make out the trees and the figure. Just below the top of the water line, paint some spikes pointing outward in a semicircle. Add a snout and fill out the body. (This part can be replaced with any kaiju, or one of your own creation)
3. Around the edges of the canvas, you can fill in some trees and shrubs. My favorite way to do this is to take a flat brush and dab the tip around where I want the leaves to be. Continue filling out the trees and any landscaping you want to add to the painting.

Congratulations! You’ve documented your very own kaiju sighting! Remember, its okay if the picture is a little messy. As campers its our job to protect these kaiju in their natural habitats so they can shock and awe other campers for years to come, and the best way to do that is to keep their shroud of mystery intact!
