We found the schematics for Dr. Trahan’s power core at the abandoned research station. It can only harness a minute amount of Ultra Light’s power, but it was a big achievement in the experiments run on Ultra Light. You can now craft your own!

Supplies:

  • Cardstock at least 37 cm x 47 cm / 14,5 inch x 18,5 inch in size
  • Sheer paper like vellum, five 4,5 inch x 4,5 inch pieces (You can also try silk paper or thin copy paper)
  • Glue (strong glue, for example a glue gun for the box assembly – if you don’t have any, try double sided tape)
  • Scissors
  • A craft knife or a small box cutter
  • Something to cut on (I used the back of a watercolor pad.)
  • A ruler
  • A cordless led light source. I used three led tea lights.
  • Optional: printer
  • PRINTOUTS: A4 size  Letter size

Instructions:

Warning! The knife is super sharp! Be careful with it so we won’t overcrowd Nurse Buffalo’s reception.

all of the supplies needed for this project

If you use the premade designs, print them out. You can cut the designs to later trace on the card stock. I preferred using a bit thicker copy paper for this (120 gsm / 80 lbs).

the template for this project is t-shaped and made of 6 squares that will fold into a cube

Each side of the power core is 4,5 inches (11,43 cm). I used a piece of cardstock to make myself a template, and used it to draw all the sides. See the illustration for instructions. Leave half an inch flaps as shown in the schematic.

Either trace the printed designs or draw your own on the card stock. I preferred to use the back side of the card stock so if I leave any smudges, they won’t show on the final piece. This is why the instruction illustration is mirrored.

the shape is cut onto cardstock and overlaid with clear vellum

Use the craft knife or box cutter to cut out the designs. Glue vellum or the sheer paper of your choice on the panels with cut-outs. Finally, use the scissors to cut the box shape. Use a ruler to make neat tight folds over the dashed lines. See that the box is proportionate before gluing the folds to make a box. Don’t glue the lid.’

side by side photo of the the finished project; one side has small battery-operated candles inside that glow in darkness and the other is the cube in daylight with the inside glowing gently

Place your led light(s) inside and close the lid. You’re finished!
