Once a upon a time, there was an Apple Pie that wanna be Pumpkin for Halloween…
(cd scratching sound)
Just kidding!
I love scroll through Pinterest, and one thing that always pop to me its those beautifully decorated pies. I think to myself, I can do that for sure! It’s all about the cookie cutters, right? Guess what? It isn’t! It’s more difficult that it looks, or at least it was for me. The good thing is, this is supposed to be a Halloween recipe post, so I’m off the hook (my pie turned out pretty scary and awful looking)! At least I gave it a try, and you should do it, because I had lost of fun!
And for that, you need the recipe, right? Grab a pen and paper, let’s do this!
Halloween Recipe: Apple Pie that wanna be a Pumpkin
Dough:
For this spooky Halloween recipe, you have 2 options: you buy those pre-made dough, or you make your own from scratch. If you choose door number 2, here are the ingredients and method.
Ingredients for from-scratch dough:
- 2 cups of flour
- 150grs of chilled butter
- 2 tbsps sugar
- 10 tbsp of chilled water
Using a food processor add the flour, sugar and butter, turn on until the mixture resembles like wet sand. Then add the water until a ball it’s formed. Wrap the dough and take it to the fridge for at least 30 mins.
Depending on the size of your pie pan, you may need to double the dough. I doubled mine. While the dough rests, we are going to prep the filling. Here are the ingredients and method.
Ingredients and method for pie filling:
- 5 to 6 big red apples
- 100grs of butter
- 200grs of yellow/brown sugar
- 1tbsp of cinnamon
- 3 eggs plus 1 egg
Start by peeling the apples and slice it thinly, reserve. In a saucepan, add the butter and let it melt, add the sugar, cinnamon and mix, let the mixture cool down a bit, then add the eggs one by one, mixing well before each egg, set aside.
Now it’s time to assemble the pie.
Roll one dough and cover the pan, cut the dough around for a perfect finish, then add the apples, next it’s the sauce, pour all over the apples.
Roll the second dough, you should this on cooking paper so it’s easier to transfer, cut in the size of your pan, now it’s time to get creative with your pumpkin face. When you are done, transfer it to the pie. Brush with the reserved egg.
Take it to the oven for about 1 hour at 340F (170º), adjust if necessary, according to your oven.
In the end you will have your own Apple Pie that wanna be a Pumpkin!
