San Diego Comic-Con is this week, and this year’s off-site activations are looking pretty good so far. We got a sneak peak of the Amazon Prime Video experience– three individual, immersive activations based around season 4 of popular series The Expanse plus two of their highly anticipated upcoming shows, The Boys and Carnival Row.

The experience is located on the corner of MLK and 1st. It begins when you step into the 60,000 square foot space, surrounded by the individual activations including a central, 40 foot tower with giant screens broadcasting scenes from the shows while you wait in queue for your turn.

Guests are given a small bag of tokens to “spend” as they will within the experiences, so choose your course wisely! You may need to barter with one of the characters or you might want to pocket one as a shiny souvenir.

Carnival Row‘s activation includes a small marketplace where humans and exotic creatures live in tension, except for a hidden lounge through a back door in the market. This is a fully immersive area with fully costumed characters who interact with guests, and are happy to answer questions and give you bits of their personal histories. Watch out for the police, though– they don’t like creatures much!

In The Expanse, you are part of a United Nations peacekeeping team to another planet, but something has gone very wrong. Soon the missions turns to reconnaissance and recovery, and you must interview locals on a planet where there was a mysterious crash three days prior. Listen for scuttlebutt but watch your back as you never know what’s going to happen.

Finally, The Boys takes you into a crime scene investigation. A superhero has been kidnapped and it’s up to you to explore the Audio Visual shop to look for clues and try to solve the mystery before the cops arrive.

Round out your time in the activation with food from a Carl’s Jr truck, or churros and fruit from the Carnival Row vendors, hang in the lounge if you need to recharge your phone battery (or just rest your feet!), and be sure to check out the cosplay corner, where a photographer is on hand to capture your looks.
