This week, we tried to start something new- Feminist Selfie Friday. You’ve probably seen the ‘I need feminism’ pictures around, you may have even taken your own. They are a way of declaring yourself a feminist, and calling out the forms of oppression you face. One of the girls in our cast suggested that we make a hashtag for this, and to do it on Fridays, and try and take over social media with feminism. One of the other girls suggested that when we’re on campus on Fridays, if we see one of the girls from the cast, we should take selfies with them as well, as a way of getting to know each other better too! This was our first Friday, and it was a hit! Here’s to hoping this coming week is just as exciting.
This week at rehearsal, in order for the girls in the monologues, especially the girls in group monologues, to get to know each other a little bit more, we made a scavenger hunt around campus for them! They were all given sets of clues to different places on campus where veteran members of the cast were waiting for them. It was a lot of fun, and a good way to help some of the younger cast get to know the campus even better. My station was in a hidden little area of the library that a lot of people don’t know is there and we could hear the girls come up the elevator and head a different way which was pretty funny. Eventually everyone did find us though! I’m very excited for next week when we finally get to see the girls starting to preform their monologues and what kinds of characters they’re going to take on.
We are in the full throws of event planning and fundraising. In a few weeks, we have townstorming, where we’ll go out and ask for donations for the cause, and our dance-a-thon will be coming up soon too! We have a couple girls who have been doing dance for a long time that will be teaching some basic dances and some line dances. It should be a lot of fun!
