Universal TV announced that they have optioned Eisner Award-nominated comic book series The Wicked + The Divine, co-created by Kieron Gillen and Jamie Mckelvie, who previously worked on Marvel’s Young Avengers.
The TV series is set to be produced by Milkfed Criminal Masterminds, the company run by fellow comic book authors Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick, who announced their 2-year deal with Universal TV back in February, including their plans to produce other creator’s works alongside their own.
In response to congratulations on Twitter, writer Kieron Gillen replied with typical humour:
For those not aware of The Wicked + The Divine, which launched last summer, and fast became one of Image Comics most successful books, it features a group of characters known as the Pantheon, who agree to merge with deities in a deal which grants them powers at the cost of a greatly reduced lifespan. The second trade paperback is due to be released soon, making this the ideal time to jump aboard the series, ahead of more TV news.
