The Pull List March 26th 2014

I’ve always been of the opinion that there’s a great comic book out there for everyone. I love making recommendations to folks – especially new readers – and helping them grow a love for one of America’s unique forms of literature.

So, let me tell you what to read this week.

Hacktivist #3

Hacktivist 3

Writer: Milano, Alyssa
Artist: To, Marcus
Cover Artist: To, Marcus

Hacktivist is a unique story about the link between social media and revolution told in an overt way. In this third issue, we see players from the YourLife and Tunisia converge.

Serenity Leaves on the Wind #3 (of 6)

Serenity Leaves on the Wind 3

Writer: Whedon, Zack
Artist: Jeanty, Georges
Cover Artist: Santos, Daniel Dos

Firefly fans need to read this series. No spoilers, but it will blow your mind away. This issue should have some good River moments.

Tomb Raider #2

Tomb Raider 2

Writer: Simone, Gail
Artist: Selma, Nicolas Daniel
Cover Artist: Scott, Dan

I personally am not sure how I feel about this particular comic. Having not played the video game, I am at a disadvantage. The first issue did not do a good job setting up the comic series for newcomers, but I am a firm believer in second chances. Plus, Gail Simone rarely lets me down.

Legends of Red Sonja #5 (of 5)

Legends of Red Sonja 5

Writer: Simone, Gail
Artist: Jadson, Jack
Cover Artist: Anacleto, Jay

ARM FLAILING! Last issue in this fantastic series. The Grey Riders are coming in on Sonja. How many of the stories told about her are true?

Alex + Ada #5

Alex + Ada #5

Writer: Luna, Jonathan
Artist: Luna, Jonathan
Cover Artist: Luna, Jonathan

Ada got an upgrade! How will she handle this newfound freedom? How will the relationship between Alex and Ada change?

Deadly Class #3

Deadly Class #3

Writer: Remender, Rick
Artist: Craig, Wesley
Cover Artist: Craig, Wesley

Assassin school! Marcus goes out on his first assassination mission, but someone from his past may mess everything up.

Fatale #21

Fatale #21

Writer: Brubaker, Ed
Artist: Phillips, Sean
Cover Artist: Phillips, Sean

With this issue, everything we know about the series will be flipped on its head. Josephine and Nick meet back up, and go from the hunted to the hunters. Pick up #20 for the start of this arc!

Rat Queens Vol. 1: Sass and Sorcery

Rat Queens vol. 1

Writer: Wiebe, Kurtis J.
Artist: Upchurch, Roc
Cover Artist: Staples, Fiona

This series is one of my favorites to come out in recent years. D&D fans NEED this comic, especially since it is the funniest take on this type of story. Four friends in a guild going on quests… what more do you need? This trade collects the first five issues in the series (and is only $9.99!).

Amazing X-Men #5

Amazing X-Men #5

Writer: Aaron, Jason
Artist: McGuinness, Ed
Cover Artist: McGuinness, Ed

Haven’t been giving a lot of Amazing X-Men love around here, so this is long overdue. Pick this series up if you like Nightcrawler as a pirate in heaven fighting against his demon father from hell. Lots of bromance between him and Wolverine, and Firestar makes an appearance!

Guardians of the Galaxy #13

Guardians of the Galaxy 13

Writer: Bendis, Brian Michael
Artist: Pichelli, Sara
Cover Artist: Pichelli, Sara

Oh snap! Conclusion of the Trial of Jean Grey! This has been the most fun crossover this year, mostly because of Rocket and young Ice Man. Plus, addresses the ethical issues of whether Jean needs to be around or not.

Silver Surfer #1

Silver Surfer 1

Writer: Slott, Dan
Artist: Allred, Michael

Allred and Slott are going to bring this character to the forefront of Marvel fans’ minds once again. Pick up this issue if you are a Doctor Who fan – intergalactic travel!

Rachel Rising #24

Rachel Rising 24

Writer: Moore, Terry
Artist: Moore, Terry
Cover Artist: Moore, Terry

Not sure how tell to say this: this comic will blow you away. It’s not an easy one to jump in on because of the way the story is told, but the payoff for longtime readers is worth investing in the series.

That’s it for this week’s pull list! If you have any recommendations for comic fans (and non-fans) out there, share them in the comments section!
