I’ve always been of the opinion that there’s a great comic book out there for everyone. I love making recommendations to folks – especially new readers – and helping them grow a love for one of America’s unique forms of literature.

So, let me tell you what to read this week.

The Woods #3

Writer: Tynion IV, James

Artist: Dialynas, Michael

Cover Artist: Perez, Ramon K.

This original series from Tynion and Dialynas is fantastic. School relocated to a foreign planet, ragtag group of teens trying to survive – what more could you ask for? Still early on enough in the series for new readers to check it out.

A Voice in the Dark Vol. 1

A Voice In The Dark Vol 1

Writer: Taylor, Larime

Artist: Taylor, Larime

Cover Artist: Taylor, Larime

What happens when a natural-born killer enrolls in college? Zoey wants to have a normal life, but the stress of college is really taking a toll on her impulses to kill. Can she keep it all in check? This series is written and drawn by Larime Taylor, an artist who, by the way, draws with his mouth.

Black Widow #8

Black Widow 8

Writer: Edmondson, Nathan

Artist: Noto, Phil

Cover Artist: Noto, Phil

Pardon me while I weep with tears of joy – Tasha and Bucky! Tasha and Bucky! That cover! Really hope that he makes regular appearances in this series, mostly because I miss that Winter Soldier series from Brubaker.

Guardians of the Galaxy Galaxy’s Most Wanted One Shot

Guardians of the Galaxy Galaxy's Most Wanted one shot

Writer: Pilgrim, Will

Artist: Vito, Andrea Di

Cover Artist: Lee, Jee-Hyung

A little hesitant on recommending this one (not the current team on the ongoing series), but it could be a great intro for people who have no idea what Guardians is. This one-shot features Rocket and Groot, two of the more unique characters on the team.

Rocket Raccoon #1

Rocket Raccoon 1

Writer: Young, Skottie

Artist: Young, Skottie

Cover Artist: Young, Skottie

Speaking of Rocket…here’s his new series! Young flexes his writing muscles as he tackles Marvel’s favorite talking raccoon. Well, actually, he’s not a raccoon. Just an alien. Whatever. Read this series! He’s on the run from the authorities! Hijinks!
That’s it for this week’s pull list! If you have any recommendations for comic fans (and non-fans) out there, share them in the comments section!
