I’ve always been of the opinion that there’s a great comic book out there for everyone. I love making recommendations to folks – especially new readers – and helping them grow a love for one of America’s unique forms of literature.

So, let me tell you what to read this week.

Oh My Goddess Omnibus Volume 1

Writer: Fujishima, Kosuke
Artist: Fujishima, Kosuke
Cover Artist: Fujishima, Kosuke

From Previews:

College student Keiichi Morisato thought it was a prank when a strange, beautiful young woman appeared in his dorm room one night. But his unexpected visitor is literally a goddess from heaven, Belldandy, come to grant him any single wish of his choosing. When Keiichi wishes for Belldandy to stay with him forever, it’s the beginning of a complicated, cosmic saga of comedy and romance that makes for one of manga’s greatest love stories!

The classic shojo comedy is getting the Dark Horse omnibus treatment! This collection is huge, and I am personally so excited to dive into this series.

Batgirl Annual #3

Writer: Stewart, Cameron; Fletcher, Brenden
Artist: Bengal; La Fuente, David; Doyle, Ming; Chen, Mingjue Helen; Plascencia, Ivan
Cover Artist: Bengal

From Previews:

On her latest mission, Batgirl finds herself mixing it up with Helena Bertinelli of Spyral…but who is the mysterious Spyral agent who seems to be one step ahead of her at every turn without ever showing his face? She’s determined to crack this mystery – but Grayson is just as determined not to get caught! Plus: Batgirl visits Gotham Academy – and there are plenty of surprises in store for her!

GASP! My DC OTP! In proximity! This issue reminds me quite a bit of an issue of the Black Widow series where Bucky shows up in Natasha’s life again. Same exact feeling of hope! Also, Stephanie Brown! And Batwoman! MAPS!

Batgirl #42

Batgirl 42

Writer: Stewart, Cameron; Fletcher, Brenden
Artist: Tarr, Babs
Cover Artist: Stewart, Cameron

From Previews:

Batgirl can barely hold her own in combat against the new Batman.

I’ve been having some issues with fathers stifling their daughters’ potentials through “protecting her” (coughAnt-Mancough), but Batgirl makes up for it when Barbara does what she feels is best. In fact, she does her best to show just how valuable she is to Gotham and Batman.

Black Widow #20

Writer: Edmondson, Nathan
Artist: Noto, Phil
Cover Artist: Noto, Phil

* What set off her long path of atonement?
* The creative team that’s brought you the longest run in Black Widow history steps deeper into the psyche of Natasha Romanoff than ever before.

I love backstories of Natasha, and I can’t wait to see what this creative team adds to her history.

Star Wars #7

Star Wars 7

Writer: Aaron, Jason
Artist: Cassaday, John
Cover Artist: Cassaday, John

From Previews:

* A special one-off tale of Ben Kenobi!
* Injustice reigns on Tatooine as villainous scum run rampant.
* Will Ben risk revealing himself to do what’s right?
* Guest Artist Simone Bianchi (WOLVERINE, ASTONISHING X-MEN) joins writer Jason Aaron for this special tale!

OBI-WAN!!!! After that doozey of a last issue, I’m glad to take a quick breather and get some one-on-one time with my main man Ben.

That’s it for this week’s pull list!  If you have any recommendations for comic fans (and non-fans) out there, share them in the comments section!
