I’ve always been of the opinion that there’s a great comic book out there for everyone. I love making recommendations to folks – especially new readers – and helping them grow a love for one of America’s unique forms of literature.

So, let me tell you what to read this week.

Pop #1

Writer: Pires, Curt
Artist: Copland, Jason
Cover Artist: Todd, Dylan

Pop 1

From Previews:

What if the world’s pop stars and celebrities were literally products, grown by the world’s wealthiest (and most depraved) minds-and one of them escaped? As unique as it is entertaining, POP is a white-knuckled thrill ride through the marketing-mastered, technologically tethered tragicomedy we call life. Multiversity Comics named Curt Pires a ‘Creator to Watch in 2013.’  ComicBook.com named Jason Copland a ‘Creator to Watch in 2014.’  Smart and savage! Sexy and scathing!

Brand new series from Dark Horse! Looks creative and fun.

Sundowners #1

Writer: Seeley, Tim
Artist: Terry, Jim
Cover Artist: Brunner, Chris

Sundowners 1

From Previews:

Faster than lightning! Stronger than steel! Crazier than an outhouse rat? Enter the Sundowners-sworn to protect humanity from interdimensional invaders! But is the threat real, or is it all in their heads? From Tim Seeley (Revival, Hack/Slash, The Occultist)! A dark look at the thin line between heroism and insanity!

Another new series from Dark Horse. Seeley’s work on Hack/Slash was amazing, and I’m excited to check out darker series.

The Fuse Vol. 1 Trade paperback

From Previews:

22,000 MILES UP, THERE IS NO BACKUP. Working homicide on an orbiting energy platform, in a five mile long jury-rigged steel city stuffed with a half million people, and no help from your so-called colleagues back on earth, is more than tough…it’s murder. Cynical, foul-mouthed veteran ANTONY JOHNSTON (UMBRAL, Wasteland) gets partnered with fresh-faced idealist JUSTIN GREENWOOD (Wasteland, Resurrection) for a new crime series with serious attitude!

I’ve only been able to read the first few issues of this series. That being said, The Fuse is a great sci-fi crime drama. Image’s first volumes are priced at $9.99, making it easy for new readers to get into the series.

Cover Artist: Staples, Fiona

From Previews:

The family is tested.

Argh! This series is killing me with all the turmoil and emotional stress.

JIM ZUB (SKULLKICKERS, Samurai Jack), STEVE CUMMINGS (Legends of the Dark Knight, Deadshot), and JOHN RAUCH (INVINCIBLE) team up to create an all-new Image supernatural spectacle that combines the camaraderie and emotion of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the action and mystery of Hellboy. Don’t miss it!
