I’ve always been of the opinion that there’s a great comic book out there for everyone. I love making recommendations to folks – especially new readers – and helping them grow a love for one of America’s unique forms of literature.

So, let me tell you what to read this week.

Gotham City Sirens Book 1 Trade Paperback

Gotham City Sirens Book 1

Writer: Dini, Paul

Artist: March, Guillem

Cover Artist: March, Guillem

From Previews:

In this new collection of GOTHAM CITY SIRENS #1-13, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are tired of playing by other people’s rules regardless of which side of the law they’re on. These tough ladies have a new agenda that’s all their own, and they’ll use any means necessary to pursue it. But can they get along and work as a team? And who will get hurt along the way?

I love this series. Harley, Catwoman, and Ivy hanging out and causing trouble? It works out really, really well. The series is pre-New 52, so the characters are more traditional than what you see on the comic book stands right now.

Edward Scissorhands #1 (of 5)

Edward Scissorhands 1

Writer: Leth, Kate

Artist: Rausch, Drew

Cover Artist: Rodriguez, Gabriel

From Previews:

An all-new adventure revisiting Edward Scissorhands five decades after the end of the fan-favorite movie! In castle just outside a sleepy suburban town, a brilliant inventor created Edward Scissorhands.

I love Kate Leth and her fantastic personality. I’m excited to check out her new series. Bonus: it’s perfect for Halloween!

No Game No Life Vol. 1

No Game No Life vol 1

Writer: Kamiya, Yuu

Artist: Hiiragi, Mashiro

Cover Artist: Hiiragi, Mashiro

From Previews:

For fans of Sword Art Online, a brother and sister become transported into a fantasy game world and must fight to survive. Sora and Shiro are brilliant (but unemployed) gamers whose Internet fame have spawned urban legends all over the Internet. One day, they are summoned by a boy named ‘God’ to an alternate world. There, God has prohibited war and declared this to be a world where ‘everything is decided by games,’ even national borders. Humanity has been driven back into one remaining city by the other races. Will Sora and Shiro, the good-for-nothing brother and sister, become the ‘Saviors of Humanity’ on this alternate world?

This is such an interesting anime. Great world-building, weird concept, and high-stakes action.

Black Bird Complete Box Set

Black Bird Complete Box Set

Writer: Sakurakoji, Kanoko

Artist: Sakurakoji, Kanoko

Cover Artist: Sakurakoji, Kanoko

From Previews:

There is a world of myth and magic that intersects ours, and only a special few can see it. Misao Harada is one such person, and she wants nothing to do with magical realms. She just wants to have a normal high school life and maybe get a boyfriend. But she is the bride of demon prophecy, and her blood grants incredible powers, her flesh immortality. Now the demon realm is fighting over the right to her hand…or her life!

*hyperventilating increases* This is one of my favorite manga series! If I didn’t already own all the volumes, I would grab this box set right up.

That’s it for this week’s pull list! If you have any recommendations for comic fans (and non-fans) out there, share them in the comments section!
