I’ve always been of the opinion that there’s a great comic book out there for everyone. I love making recommendations to folks – especially new readers – and helping them grow a love for one of America’s unique forms of literature.

So, let me tell you what to read this week.

Lumberjanes Vol. 1

Writer: Stevenson, Noelle
Artist: Allen, Brooke A.
Cover Artist: Stevenson, Noelle
From Previews:
What’s to Love: Lumberjanes is the hit series from the BOOM! Box imprint that features five rad ladies who fight monster baddies with the power of friendship! Written by Noelle Stevenson (Nimona, Adventure Time) and newcomer Grace Ellis, and illustrated by Brooke Allen (A Home for Mr. Easter), this new series has taken comics by storm and has earned rave reviews. What It Is: At Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types, things are not what they seem. Three-eyed foxes. Secret caves. Anagrams! Luckily, Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are five rad, butt-kicking best pals determined to have an awesome summer together…and they’re not gonna let a magical quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way! The mystery keeps getting bigger, and it all begins here. Collects issues #1-4.

FRIENDSHIP TO THE MAX!  This series came onto the scene and changed everything!  Now an ongoing series, Lumberjanes continues to provide diverse, pro-female representations of friendship.  And, thanks to BOOM, I have some preview pages of this volume to share with y’all.

Avengers Millennium #1 (of 4)

Writer: Costa, Mike
Artist: DiGiandomenico, Carmine
Cover Artist: Yu, Leinil Francis
From Previews:
* At a secret Hydra installation hidden away in rural Japan, the Avengers discover a time-portal that sends them on an adventure that spans millennia. But what kind of bad guys have a time machine they don’t use to change the past? Bad guys who know they win…
* The only things standing between our immutable past and our wasted, ruined future are the Avengers, finally reunited to battle a doomsday weapon thousands of years in the hatching.

Ok, OK, Avengers, you now have my attention.  Limited series, cool team, time travel, and Japan…this may be the Avengers title for a gal like me.

Kanan the Last Padawan #1

Writer: Weisman, Greg
Artist: Larraz, Pepe
Cover Artist: Brooks, Mark
From Previews:
Kanan Jarrus–in STAR WARS REBELS, he’s a cocky, sarcastic renegade fighting against the Galactic Empire alongside the rag-tag crew of the Ghost…but years before, at the height of the Clone Wars, he was known as Caleb Dume, Jedi Padawan under the instruction of Jedi Master Depa Billaba. Neither master nor apprentice ever suspected that the Clone Troopers they commanded would turn on them upon the issuing of Order 66-the order to execute all Jedi. How did Caleb Dume survive? How did he learn to survive on his own? And how did he become the man we know as Kanan Jarrus? Writer Greg Weisman (writer/executive producer on STAR WARS REBELS, SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN) and artist Pepe Larraz (DEADPOOL VS. X-FORCE, THOR, INHUMAN) bring us a tale bridging the years between the Clone Wars and Rebels!

Lately, I’ve been all about the Clone Wars TV series.  I’ve even gone ahead and seen some of the Rebels show, and it is absolutely delightful.  I’m looking forward to checking out this series and getting an inside look to this period of Star Wars.

That’s it for this week’s pull list! If you have any recommendations for comic fans (and non-fans) out there, share them in the comments section!
