When Boom! Studios decided to publish Lumberjanes, a comic book series about five girl scouts, I don’t think they quite realised how popular it would be. The comic was only meant to last for eight issues, but just over a year later; the book has an ever growing fan base, is about to release its second volume, and has been nominated for an Eisner Award for Best New Series. Now it’s been revealed that Fox wants to adapt it for the big screen – Go Ladies!

20th Century Fox has picked up the rights to the comic, and want to create a live-action adaption with a little help from screenwriter Will Widger, who will be creating the script. Boom! Studios’ executives Ross Richie and Stephen Chrity will be producing the movie, along with Kira Goldberg and Ryan Jones from Fox. The producers are already thinking about which female director they want attached to the movie, but nothing has been revealed yet.

For anybody who has yet to read Lumberjanes; it’s a female written, completely badass comic, that revolves around the summer camp shenanigans of five teenage friends; Jo, April, Molly, Mal and Ripley. The camp isn’t quite what it seems though, because it is plagued by the Supernatural, so the girls take it upon themselves to battle the ghoulies Buffy-style, whilst earning scout badges along the way.

I’m really looking forward to seeing who they cast in the Lumberjanes. Each girl is completely different, but they all have an amazing relationship. For this movie to work, there will need to be some pretty outstanding chemistry on screen. Who do you think they should cast for the roles of Jo, April, Molly, Mal and Ripley?
