So this is not a new idea. A few years after a major Disney blockbuster they decide to create an animated television show with our beloved characters. Although this concept is a repeated theme with the Disney Channel and Disney group of companies, I am still very very excited about it. As of 2017, Disney will be releasing a new animated series about Rapunzel and the Tangled crowd.

What makes this exciting??

Unlike a lot of the Disney “Princess” series that they have brought out, they are keeping to the Rapunzel look at the end of the movie. I know this sounds silly but I get so tired of all the long haired, puffy dress, princess versions being used in the television shows even though they are no longer that look at the end of the movies.

This TV show is supposed to be based between the events of the feature film and those of the 2012 short film “Tangled Ever After”. If you haven’t watched the short film you totally should.

So they are keeping a short dark haired, spunky Rapunzel, and adding in weekly adventures of learning to live in a castle and city and life. I am sure we will get a lot of fun moments with the inclusion of Pascal and Maximus again (because we all know that the horses make the movies). Also we are getting a new confidant named Cassandra and of course the awesome crew of the Snuggly Duckling. They are setting this up for a great coming of age series, with reference to the King having issues with Rapunzel being an independent woman, as well as Rapunzel being self aware enough to feel the need to put the crown and her marriage on hold until she has time to discover this new world to her.  (source: the Mary Sue)

Another exciting bit of news is that the original voice actors will be present for the TV series. This is not usually the case (other than the “How to Train your Dragon” TV series I don’t know of any others). TV versions usually use a new voice actor that attempts to mimic the original, but they never are quite the same.

Disney News stated:

“…with Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi reprising their roles as Rapunzel and Eugene (aka Flynn Rider). The series will premiere in 2017 on Disney Channels around the world, and will also reunite Disney Legend and Academy Award®-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater. Tangled, produced by Disney Television Animation, was developed by animation veterans Chris Sonnenburg (Disney’s Enchanted) and Shane Prigmore (The Lego Movie).”

This makes me so happy. By reuniting the Composer and Lyricist, as well as Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, we have so many opportunities for fun songs and musical additions into the TV series. There is nothing better than a musical Disney TV show, and this isn’t just from the viewpoint of a Mom with kids who sing along with everything. As an adult, I love Disney musical-based shows (like Jake and the Neverland Pirates) as much as any kid.

So now we wait… is it 2017 yet?
