On the 3rd of May David Ayer, Director of Suicide Squad released a photo via Twitter that has been highly anticipated by fans. That photo was of the casting of the Suicide Squad, and honestly I am very excited. I know there may be a lot of naysayers out there but I love anything with Harley Quinn and this version is one of my favourites. There will always be changes when a comic becomes a movie, from clothing to interpretation of space, but I believe they got the feel of the characters spot on.

Recently there have been a few set photos released from various sources. As a home favourite, I’ve noticed a larger amount of pictures of Harley. So far one of the most fun is one taken by a fan on the street of Toronto. You see a few of the other cast members in the background but the feel of Harley is spot on. Margot Robbie has all the making of an amazing Harley Quinn, and you can tell she is highly based on the New 52.  Here are some photos for comparison.

First is the image on set I mentioned:

Now take a look at the following image from the New 52 Suicide Squad #1:

I know in the comic Harley has a darker, highly contrasting appearance. The new Harley seems lighter with the white hair and amount of white clothing, but to me that doesn’t matter. The stance is spot on. I believe she has done her homework.

As a breakdown for the rest of the cast here’s a brief Rundown of the who’s who in the photo:

So if you were wondering who some of the folks were in this yearbook photo of Belle Reve Federal Penitentiary’s graduating class, here’s the full caption list of characters and the actors playing them (from left to right): Slipknot (Adam Beach), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), and El Diablo (Jay Hernandez).  Source: EW

They all look pretty amazing. Will Smith’s Deadshot is the only character that has had a character photo released on David Ayer’s Twitter.

I’m looking forward to seeing the other characters individually. Mainly I’m hoping to get a better look at the portrayal and character styling of Katana and Enchantress. I know that the individual photos of the male characters will always be cool beyond belief but I often feel a failing on the individual posters for the stronger female characters. The fact that this team has three… yes three… strong female characters is amazing. On top of that, the fact that none are coined as a “girlfriend,” etc, of one of the other group members is even better. This has the makings of so many possibilities.

If you have read the New 52 Suicide Squad or not doesn’t really matter. It seems like they are planning on tying it all together with the upcoming Batman vs Superman series. Ben Affleck has been viewed in Toronto and has been photographed on set. Although you can tell they are trying to keep as much as they can under wraps, I’m looking forward to seeing how DC can handle the mega movie franchise compared to Marvel. There is no secret in knowing that DC can tend to drop the ball in the movie franchises, but this one seems to have a glimmer of hope.
