It’s that time of month again! Where your IGGPPC staff talks about what we’ve been loving, geeking out over, and obsessing over about this month. What we’ve talked about so much that our friends and family groan and ignore us. Things that we think the community would love too. As always, please share your own picks for the month in the comments, because we love learning about new and awesome things!

Summer’s Pick: Passion Planner [Life Organization Wonder Tool]
As it’s now April, I think I can safely say that I’m addicted to my Passion Planner. It’s hard juggling all my electronic calendars – Facebook, Outlook, Google Calendar, and the like all tell me where to be and what to do, but sometimes things overlap and I get all confused as to what calendar is correct. Returning to a paper planner has been fun. I love getting to use highlighters and colored pens and stickers, plus there is room for notes and to do lists.

Joanna’s Pick: Star Wars Rebels [TV Show]
Did the Force Awaken in you this last December? Are you itching for this November to go Rogue? Want to know more about the tumultuous time after the rise of the Empire and before the Battle of Yavin? Have I got a show for you! Full confessional: I’ve picked this one before, probably a year ago. However, with all of the Star Wars love being rekindled I feel like I should gently point (or gesture wildly, as the case may be) back to this animated series currently running on Disney XD. It has a little more depth if you’ve also watched the Clone Wars animated series, but absolutely stands on its own with original characters and storylines if you don’t want to go back into the other show. Here’s why you’ll love it: awesome characters, a sense of humor, peeks into other parts of the galaxy, cameos from your faves (a certain princess ambassador named Organa showed up earlier this season!), and it is made by people who clearly love Star Wars and want to do things well. This was the first time Disney did something with the property after acquiring it, and it gave me confidence going into TFA because I knew they were on the right track. So go! Watch! And may the Force be with you!

Jen’s pick: Throne of Glass series [Books]
I finally read the first two books in this series and they’re incredible! I don’t know why it took me so long to start the series but now I can’t stop. I’m half way through the third book and I’m just loving everything about it – all the supernatural aspects, the characters, the relationships, the surprising twists. It’s a series I definitely recommend.

staff picks

Farquharson’s Pick: Pacific Northwest Stories aka The Black Tapes and Tanis Podcasts [Auditory Awesomeness]
I have been yelling at anyone who will listen to me about these two podcasts for the last month and as they are both put out by the same team it seemed prudent to include both of them. In a style that is becoming popular right now these podcasts present fictional stories as real in a style popularised by real life podcast Serial. Both, blur the line between fiction and reality with Black Tapes going down a horror route and Tanis rooted more in science fiction and conspiracy theories. I am hooked and you will be too!

Stewie’s Pick: Disney Magic Kingdoms [Phone App]
I have been playing a little bit too much of Disney Magic Kingdoms. This app is a Gameloft production and this video pretty much catches you up on all you need to know. The game was only released a few short months ago, but as a Disnerd who particularly loves the park experience, this app is far too fun. You can design and construct your own version of Disney World, complete quests as dozens of Disney characters, and of course, geek out over Disney. I appreciate time-based, aka freemium based games, because I don’t spend hours at a time gaming – so I can login, do what I can for a few minutes, log out, and continue on with life. I’m a fan!

Kimberlee’s Pick: Pilot Iroshizuku Ama-Iro [Ink]
So, I’m a fountain pen geek, and I love sampling new inks and trying new colours. I love the saturation and wetness of this line from Pilot. It’s bright without being obnoxious in a way that I wish my mouth could manage. Oh well. At least my letters and notes look pretty. I generally shop for inks online with the excellent Goulet Pen Company.

Toasty’s Pick: Pilot Vanishing Point [Fountain Pen]
So I come to add my pick to this post and Kim’s already added something fountain pen related!? Well screw it, y’all are getting a double dose of fountain pen geekery because I’m adding my thing anyway. I’ve been geeking out about this pen ever since I bought it while I was in Japan. The Vanishing Point is part of Pilot’s “Capless” line. It’s a clicky fountain pen, a wonderful piece of engineering, and a dream to use. Part of me wishes I would have bought the medium point nib instead of fine, (I do like the fine point, don’t get me wrong) but you can replace the whole inner assembly on a whim, so I might have to save my pennies and get a medium point nib too. Yes, it’s a lot of money to spend on a pen, but I felt like it was time to invest in a really nice writing instrument that will last me a long time and I think it has been well worth it. They come in a bunch of different colors and styles, and there’s a newer version called the Decimo that’s a little bit thinner. I like the weight of the one I got, though. Now I just need some pretty sky blue ink…
