Ever wanted to fall down the rabbit hole with Alice? November’s Owlcrate did just that, and we’re here to discuss it. So, take a seat at the Mad Hatter’s tea party, and let’s have a very happy unbirthday! Owlcrate is a monthly subscription box; each month they send out a box of YA bookish goodies. a newly published YA novel, as well as little odds and ends that match the month’s theme. Their November theme was WONDERLAND; this included a retelling of the famous story. In this post, I will be discussing said book, and the other items featured in the box.
The contents are shipped in a custom made box; the logo on the top, and also on each side (the other sides feature the company website, and hashtag. – #Owlcrate) I was very excited when the box arrived. (I was afraid of getting dog hair all of its contents, that I put my Disney Tsum Tsum blanket on the floor. So enjoy the cuteness!)
Included in this box; Two novels, a postcard explaining this months theme, two bookmarks, a magnet, a quote card, a letter from the author of the months featured novel, an adorable tin of tea, and a postcard teasing the next box.
HEARTLESS; by Marissa Meyer. – HEARTLESS is the untold story of the Queen of Hearts, and how (and why) she become so.. well, Heartless. the copy Owlcrate subscribers received is exclusive, and this cover cannot be found anywhere else! (the original cover is black & red)
Also included, is this quote card from the book.
This box actually included two books, the second being an exclusive paperback edition of the original ALICE IN WONDERLAND Story, with matching bookmark.
My personal favorite out of the box, is this lovely tea from Riddle’s Tea Shoppe. it comes in this adorable tin, which when you open it….
Pictured here is the postcard explaining November’s theme; a sort of, spoiler warning, of the contents of the box.
Each box comes with a pin to go along with the months theme; as a person who collects buttons/pins, I was very -excited to find this little fact out. I love this one, and have stored away with my other literary pins.
Another adorable little item included, was this magnet, which reads; “Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.”
Another personal favorite of mine, is the second bookmark, which is based off of the original ALICE IN WONDERLAND.
This box included a letter written by Marissa Meyer, author of HEARTLESS (featured novel) – The letter reads:
“Dear Owlcrate Reader, Despite the title, HEARTLESS has been a work of my heart. It combines two loves – Lewis Carroll’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND and a fascination for villain origin stories. After all, I’d long believed there was more to the decapitation – happy Queen of Hearts. Why is she always so angry? So… blood thirsty? Well, a few years ago, my imagination began to concoct a story, not a tyrannical ruler, but of a teen girl who yearned for more than society had planned for her. As you read HEARTLESS, I hope you’ll laugh, fall in love, and be plagued by an incessant sweet tooth. But mostly, I hope you’ll enjoy this trip down the rabbit hole. Best regards, Marissa Meyer.”
Finally, The second postcard; the teaser for next months theme is EPIC. This box is set to include an item from DARK HORSE COMICS. – Love Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and The Lord of the Rings? this is definitely the box for you.
