Of course, Miles Morales has been Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe for some time, but Marvel have announced that Miles will be taking over as Spider-Man for the Marvel Universe in the aftermath of Secret Wars.
As part of the announcement, Marvel shared an exclusive interview with Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, who co-created Miles back in 2011, and are reuniting for his forthcoming adventures. Bendis admitted that he had given notice of his intention to leave the book, but was inspired by the revelation that Miles would have a big part to play in the Marvel Universe, in keeping with the traditional Spider-Man character:
And by that I mean that Miles will be the Spider-Man that is trying desperately to balance his life as a high school student and his super hero career. He will be the character that is wrestling with power and responsibility in a very raw way.
While keen to avoid spoilers, Pichelli stressed the emotional complexity of Miles’ character, and suggested that readers would need to be sitting comfortably for this next chapter of his story.
