Have you ever wondered where the cute yellow and blue Lego-like servbots came from? Have you ever wanted to see Mega Man be open world? Do you like cute dancing monkeys? Well this game has what you’re looking for and more. Jump into a world covered by water and play as Mega Man Volnutt in an action adventure styled game. The game takes about 5- 8 hours to beat and is perfect to fit in between all the blockbusters. Mega Man Legends is a 90’s diamond you just have to play.
In a world that has been covered by water there is very little land mass left. The diggers are what keeps humanity afloat by finding refactors that power civilization in ancient ruins. This is where Mega Man comes in, his family makes their living via this profession and are very good at it. In the start of the story they are exploring a tower rising out of the sea and Mega Man goes in to retrieve the refactor. As he is retrieving it and escaping a robot guardian, their air ship, the Flutter, starts to smoke and they make an emergency landing on Kattleox Island.
The story is about the fabled “Mother Load” that supposedly exists on the island. It starts out with Mega Man, Roll, Data, and Gramps simply trying to fix the Flutter to get back to sea. As they’re getting everything together they end up in the middle of a pirate attack by the Bonne family who is seeking the treasure. From there it becomes a race to stop them and find the mother load before the island faces a cataclysm. You also start to learn about Mega Man’s past here and you are quickly informed that he was found in ruins and adopted near the beginning of the story.
The game has a lot of cute and lovable characters. Roll and Mega Man are both teenagers and adopted siblings. Roll is the mechanical genius of the family and usually guides Mega Man through dangerous ruins. Gramps is Roll’s biological grandfather and the one who found Mega Man. Gramps is also the friend of Kattleox’s mayor and helps get them citizenship to wander the island freely. The Bonne family is made up of Tiesel, Tronne, Servbots and Bon Bonne. Tiesel, Tronne, and Bon Bonne are siblings. Tiesel is a schemer who leads the family into most of their endeavors while Bon Bonne is the youngest and just follows along. Tronne is the one who built the servbots and gets the most screen time. She is seen throughout the game in different scenarios and even has a crush on Mega Man.
The game mechanics for this game are pretty straight forward. There are several different ruins you have to go through to clear. After clearing the ruins you have to fight a giant robot boss and find the refractors to open different ruins. You have different busters you can equip to Mega Man and some side weapons like a blaster, missiles, and mines. There is also armor upgrades to get and health extensions to buy that make the game easier or faster if you get the rocket boots. If you get tired of the main story there are also a few side quests to do like rebuilding the town after a fight or working to stop servbots from setting off mines. The game is also fully voiced when it comes to story scenes which is a huge plus for the time.
