Last year at San Diego Comic-Con, Her Universe hosted a fashion show for up and coming geek-couture designers. The winners of that show, Amy Beth Christenson and Andrew MacLaine, have been working to design a fashion line based on the ever popular characters from Marvel’s Avengers films. The styles are being sold through Hot Topic, and are currently available for pre-order, with an expected street date in mid-May. There are six pieces in the collection: four dresses and two jackets, in styles that are a departure from other Her Universe designs. Let’s take a closer look at these pieces!
This piece is a green halter featuring Loki’s helmet and styled in a very retro-pinup way. I love that the bodice is black, and halters are traditionally flattering, so this dress has some great potential. Price: $59.50 to $63.50 USD.
Another new style, this Black Widow sheath dress is on trend with its color blocking and subtle enough with the design that you could wear this out in geek stealth mode. Just the way Natasha would want it. Price: $44.50 to $48.50 USD.
This faux-leather jacket adds a little bit of edge to your Black Widow look. The cinch belt helps define the waist so that it isn’t too boxy, and it has a lining featuring the quotation, “My Past is My Own.” Price: $64.50 to $68.50 USD.
This sailor dress has a classic button front style reminiscent of the buttons on the front of “Cracker Jacks”– the US Navy enlisted blue dress uniform made famous by the caramel popcorn of the same name. It features an embroidered Mjölnir and red collar. Price: $59.50 to $64.50 USD.
The second jacket in the line, this red bomber jacket features brown trim and a 40s style Stark Industries logo on the back. It makes me think of Peggy Carter’s era which is a happy thing. The jacket is 100% polyester. Price: $54.50 to $58.50 USD.
The final piece in the collection is my favorite of the group: a blue Captain America halter dress with Cap’s shield across the skirt. I love the red waistband and the bold colors, plus as I mentioned before, halters are usually flattering on a range of sizes. Price: $59.50 to $64.50 USD.
The only real concern I have for this line is that, though the sizes range from XS to 2X or 3X (depending on the design), they are junior sizes. This means they will run small for some, and tend to be on the short side. For my 5’7″ self, this means leggings or a long petticoat to wear them, which is okay, but makes them less everyday use.
So what do you think? Let me know in comments! ^_^
