If you keep an eye on the IGGPPC Facebook page, you may recognize the shop we’re featuring today– JanDaJewelry! Their selection of miniature book charms caught my eye, so I was super delighted when they were willing to partner with us for a review + giveaway. Spoiler: if you like books, I think you’ll be very pleased! Read on, & enter to win a JOHN GREEN CHARM BRACELET!
The shop itself is well done, featuring a variety of products each with beautiful photos & clear descriptions. You can even choose between gold or silver tone for the bails when you order a charm, which is an option I appreciate. There’s something for everyone, & if you decide you want something particular that you don’t see, they’re happy to work out a custom order just for you. I can confidently vouch that your interactions with the shop would be handled professionally & in a timely manner, & would likely lead to your new favorite piece of jewelry ever. Here’s a bit of a bio from the owners:
We are a husband and wife with two eclectic visions meshed together to make unique jewelry.
David–I am a full time miniature artist and jewelry designer. I mainly design and create the miniature book jewelry.
Janice–I work at a bank and design and create part of the jewelry. I also take care of the business part of our shop.
All our jewelry is handmade with high quality materials. We take pride in giving you the highest quality jewelry we can. We put our best effort in every piece to make it a One Of A Kind item.
The items I was sent to review were a Les Miserables charm & Jane Eyre earrings!
The first thing I noticed about the products when I pulled them excitedly from their packaging was that they looked like the perfect size. I like my earrings & pendants to be clearly evident, but not too bulky, & these hit that sweet spot for me. Their weight is also a perk, these pieces can be worn all day without discomfort or displacement. Also, I simply must draw your attention to the fact that the backs & sides of each book are as admirable as the fronts!
I was impressed by the texture of the ‘covers’ of the books. They’re very soft, with just a touch of sheen, very reminiscent of an actual paperback book. You can sense the attention to detail as soon as you pick it up. That extra smoothness gives the impression that they might be a degree more water-resistant than standard paper, but I certainly wasn’t going to put that to the test, though I did wear the pendant against my skin for a little while without feeling like my skin oils would ruin it. Due to the nature of the materials, I won’t be subjecting these items to too harsh conditions, but if they do come to show a bit of age over time I’ll just be excited that they look even more like my real books.
I wore the earrings & pendant to do some shopping, to a chili supper, to paint furniture, & to a concert downtown, & I got compliments everywhere. It was a lot of fun to see who around me recognized the books & had to tell me how much they love them! People I’ve known for years who had never talked to me about books before were suddenly alight & animated, & for that moment in time we were kindred spirits.
It’s definitely worth your time to go check out their shop, so you don’t miss out on seeing the variety of things not seen here! Also, if books &/or jewelry aren’t really your thing, the same people also run a second shop, JanDaLeather, with some classy leather clutches.
I know so many people, pen pals included, whom I’ve bonded with over love of a book. That feeling makes me so excited to feature this shop on the site for you, & to share this giveaway with you!
