When going to a convention, it’s best to be prepared! When my friend and I went to Newcon last year, we made the mistake of planning last minute and forgetting just about everything but money, basic cosplays, and our IDs. It was pretty embarrassing considering we had driven about 4 hours to get there and wound up having to just make do with what we had. Don’t make the same mistake we did; if you’re going to a convention, be prepared with everything you may need before you leave so you can focus on the fun part! While not necessities, these gadgets for the iPhone will absolutely improve your convention experience.
If you are anything like me, you use your phone for everything! GPS, camera, looking up the English-to-Elvish interpretation of “where is the bathroom?” and my battery dies way too fast! Don’t take a chance that your battery will die just when you need it most; grab this gadget at Amazon for $35 and charge your phone on the go! It works with iPhones and most other cell phones, PDAs, and GPS devices. Use this app and nothing can keep you from getting pictures of yourself with Daenarys Targaryen, mother of dragons. What’s great is that the PICO can also be charged with solar power, so that’s 2 cords you won’t have to carry around with you to a convention. If the convention you are going to isn’t expecting sunny weather, you can always go with the XS Powercard Portable Charger that you can find here for $45.
This gadget, made by Kodak, is designed to allow your iPhone to take clear, beautiful, and pristine pictures. If you want to maximize the quality of your pictures without having to carry around a heavy, expensive camera, this is the way to go. With the Pixpro Smart Lens, you get a fantastic looking picture the first time, every time! It’s available on Amazon for $120. If that’s a bit out of your price range, then there are other gadgets that are used for the same purpose such as the Starter Smartphone Lens Set, which can be found here for $55. With gadgets like these, you can take high quality pictures of your favorite characters even from your iPhone.

This gadget may seem simplistic, but it is a fantastic product that can help you save space, free up your hands, and helps you stick to your budget! This phone case also functions as a small wallet, allowing you to carry some cash and a card or two. It isn’t necessarily safe in some situations to carry a ton of cash around with you, so make sure to plan out a budget! Take only the cash you’re going to want to spend each day. You can buy the wallet case you best like here.
Be Prepared to Have a Blast!
If you are planning on attending any kind of convention, be it Comicon, a Star Trek convention, or a gaming convention, it’s best to be prepared. Make your plans regarding your traveling companions, transportation and accommodations well in advance so that you can focus on the fun part! Print out the convention schedule before you leave, just in case you have trouble connecting to the internet. Whether you’re flying, taking a bus, riding in the TARDIS, or taking any other form of transportation, it’s important to have all your information printed out beforehand for easy and quick access.
The trip to the convention may be long, and you may want access to the internet to pass the time or to look up more information. Anytime you are traveling, it’s important to have a secure connection to the internet. Without a secure connection, there’s no guarantee that your private information will be safe, as public Wi-Fi has become a minefield of security concerns. Using a virtual private network (VPN) can help protect you by encrypting your data and creating a secure connection to the internet that your data can be sent through safely, without fear of anyone getting access to your private info. The use of a good VPN will ensure that even Oracle would have trouble getting access to your files!
Ultimately, conventions are about having a great time with people who have similar interests, and there is always something interesting to do. Next time you go to a convention, make sure you have some of these useful gadgets so you can have a blast, and don’t forget your sunscreen, sharpies, and notebook!
