Tell us your favourite memory from the 90’s. (I know it’s hard to pick just one, but you can do it!)
My sister and I were completely caught up in the dreaded Beanie Baby rage of the 90’s. Once we learned that they were collectible, limited edition, and that everyone wanted them, we went ballistic. We waited in lines for hours just to get the bears, or any other new ones that were released. We even started a Beanie Baby Club, where we sat at our desks and talked about Beanie Babies. I was the Vice President. I should probably add it to my resume.

What album best captures the spirit of the 90’s for you?
I was very into alternative and badass chick bands. I loved Everclear’s “So much for the afterglow,” and “Sparkle and Fade,” Kittie’s “Spit,” and No Doubt’s “Tragic Kingdom.” The album I absolutely wore down to the plastic center was Hole’s “Celebrity Skin.”

What is your favourite 90’s TV show?
When I was living through the 90’s, I was big into Nicktoons. Angry Beavers and Rocko’s Modern Life were my favorites. I also loved Full House. When I got older, I could appreciate the more adult shows from the era: Fraiser, Friends and of course, the X-files.

Hormonal angst and screaming goth chicks, littered with pogs and dead tamagotchis. That is a weird sentence.

If you could be a fictional character from the 90’s who would you be and why?
I always loved Phoebe Buffay from Friends. She had this fun bohemian life in NYC, but the stability and love of good friends.

Tell us your favourite memory from the 90’s. (I know it’s hard to pick just one, but you can do it!)
It’s the very last memory I have of the 90s, but New Year’s Eve at the turn of the millennium was a really massive deal. I was in high school on a band trip and we were staying in a hotel full of other high school bands from around the country. The organizers of this shindig threw us a huge party in the hotel ball room and we all stayed up together with people from all over the country to celebrate the year 2000. (I also remember the “Y2K Bug” being a thing and how absolutely nothing happened at midnight. Ha!)

What album best captures the spirit of the 90’s for you?
I’m going to go with Smash Mouth’s Astrolounge. Believe it or not, that All Star song that’s on about fifteen movie soundtracks was released first on a regular album. The rest of the album is a colorful, weird, outer-spacey with a 60s retro vibe type of thing. Yes, it sounds like Smash Mouth but if you step past the fact that most people now associate them with Shrek, it’s a fun one. It came out in June 1999, at the pinnacle of late 90s…weirdness. (PS: The first movie I know of to use All Star was NOT Shrek– it was Mystery Men, which is a sadly underrated flick, also from 1999.)

What is your favourite 90’s TV show?
If I have to pick just one? All That. Imagine Saturday Night Live but for teenagers, with amazing young comedians who are now peppered all over other big shows, including SNL. I was also super into Lois and Clark, and TGIF, which was a block of TV shows that came on between about 8 and 10pm on ABC. During my years watching TGIF, the lineup included Family Matters, Boy Meets World, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Sister Sister, and the short-lived Muppets Tonight. Good stuff.

Summarize your experience of the 90’s in one sentence.
I went to middle and high school in the 90s, which makes me old and also the same age as Britney Spears.

If you could be a fictional character from the 90’s who would you be and why?
Eliza Thornberry. Talking to animals while traveling the world filming a nature documentary? Sign me up. (And I know this show went into the early 2000s, but it started in 1998 so I’m counting it.)

polly-pocket
Tell us your favourite memory from the 90’s. (I know it’s hard to pick just one, but you can do it!)
Sorry Iggles, I hated the 90’s. I enjoyed playing with my Polly Pockets and my NES, but spent a lot of my being creative with fashion plates and my box of colored pencils.

What album best captures the spirit of the 90’s for you?
I know I’m expected to be influenced by the classic stylings of Hanson or the Backstreet Boys, but my favorite album of the 90s, was the soundtrack to the movie Evita. I owned it on the two cassette tape set and I used to dance and sing around my bedroom to it. I know, I’m horrible.

What is your favourite 90’s TV show?
I watched a lot of The X-Files in the mid to late 90s. I think Ghostwriter and Wishbone were the most important children’s TV shows in my life!

Summarize your experience of the 90’s in one sentence.
That Duck Hunt dog is the worst.

If you could be a fictional character from the 90’s who would you be and why?
Can I be Sabrina the Teenage Witch? I want magical powers and a sassy talking cat.

Tell us your favourite memory from the 90’s. (I know it’s hard to pick just one, but you can do it!)
Most of my favourite memories came from sleepovers with my best friends – eating junk food, watching TGIF, and painting our nails with sparkly polish.

What album best captures the spirit of the 90’s for you?
No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom. This album changed my life. Gwen’s style also inspired my fashion and hair choices quite a bit in the late 90s.

What is your favourite 90’s TV show?
Beverly Hills 90210. It’s hard to pick just one but this show was my favourite show for a long time. I’m shocked at how young I was when I first started watching the show but the adventures and drama with the 90210 crew grabbed my attention.

Posters plastered my bedroom walls where I practiced my Spice Girls’ dance moves.

If you could be a fictional character from the 90’s who would you be and why?
Rogue from Animated X-Men. I used to pretend I was her when I went rollerblading. She’s one badass mutant.

Tell us your favourite memory from the 90’s. (I know it’s hard to pick just one, but you can do it!)
That day in ’98 when I randomly pulled out a book from the school library shelf, and was introduced to my new best friends, and a whole world of real magic. (P.S. that book was Harry Potter.)

What album best captures the spirit of the 90’s for you?
I was born in ’90, so I think the “spirit of the 90’s” probably passed over my head. I just listened to Disney soundtracks for the most part, so let’s go with The Lion King (and you could also say the spirit of the 90’s was “Asante sana Squash banana, wewe nugu mimi hapana”, and not be entirely wrong).

What is your favourite 90’s TV show?
I would say Twin Peaks or Buffy, but since I saw neither in the actual 90s, I will go with any one of those amazing Australian shows that for some reason made it all the way over here. Thunderstone, Spellbinder, and that other one where this girl whose name may or may not start with an A travels in time (that I’ve been trying to find ever since without any luck – any Aussies to the rescue?) I also loved Are You Afraid of the Dark? and Goosebumps, even though I always had terrible nightmares after.

Summarize your experience of the 90’s in one sentence.
I was basically just functioning as my older brother’s shadow throughout that whole decade (and beyond), so: Magic Cards, Star Wars, Warcraft, and rollerblades.

If you could be a fictional character from the 90’s who would you be and why?
If you’d asked me in the 90’s I would have said Spiderman or Harry Potter, because for some reason I was sure I’d grow up to be a boy (and a superhero), but I guess maybe now I’d go with Hermione Granger instead. Because Hogwarts, and magic, and the cutest cat.

animorphs

Tell us your favourite memory from the 90’s. (I know it’s hard to pick just one, but you can do it!)
This one is from the early 90’s, but it’s definitely one of my favorite memories. My parents were very against buying me a video game system no matter how much I wanted one. They didn’t believe in letting me have video games, said they were a waste of money and time. However, in the summer if 1999, I won a purple Game Boy Color in a drawing at a water park, and they let me keep it. Winning that Game Boy was my first step in the door, and after that, they were much more receptive to me getting video games and systems. A few years alter, I went on to buy a Game Boy Advance for myself and I connected with my now-husband via our love for the system and competitive MarioKart tournaments on the band bus on the way to football games. Who knows if that would have happened had I not won that Game Boy in the 90’s!

What album best captures the spirit of the 90’s for you?
I think the one album I played on repeat in the later half of the 90’s was Shania Twain’s Come On Over album. I’m not a country person anymore, but I was for that album. I still have every song memorized. I played that and the Titanic Soundtrack way too much as well. Oh, and Savage Garden! Early 90’s was the Lion King soundtrack for sure. So much good music in the 90’s.

What is your favourite 90’s TV show?
I was a huge fan of Nicktoons, especially CatDog, but I have to say that my favorite TV show was The Secret World of Alex Mack. Or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Or Sabrina the Teenage Witch. These questions are too hard!

Summarize your experience of the 90’s in one sentence.
Cartoons, soccer tournaments, and Animorphs.

If you could be a fictional character from the 90’s who would you be and why?
Before the obsession with Harry Potter, I was a hardcore Animorphs fan. I still own every book and keep them proudly displayed on my bookshelves, despite my husband trying to put them away to make room for his things. NO! I really wanted to be one of the Animorphs. Or just have the power to turn into animals. We don’t necessarily need to fight aliens or anything. I just want that morphing ability. How cool would that be?

Tell us your favourite memory from the 90’s. (I know it’s hard to pick just one, but you can do it!)
Going to France on a student exchange trip!

What album best captures the spirit of the 90’s for you?
Seriously if you think I am only picking one you can think again! The 90s is where I dipped my toe into the alternative music scene and then dove right in. I started off with Guns n’ Roses (Use Your Illusions II), Nirvana (Incestercide and Nevermind) then moved onto Deftones (Adrenalin and Around the Fur) and No Doubt (Tragic Kingdom) with a dash of Pist.On ($ell Out) and Type O Negative (Bloody Kisses). I was also a massive fan of Fugees and also Brit Pop bands like Blur, Elastica, Lush, Pulp and Suede.

What is your favourite 90’s TV show?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Eerie Indiana!

School was hell but the music was cool

If you could be a fictional character from the 90’s who would you be and why?
I would be Faith from Buffy…five by five!

seaquest

Tell us your favourite memory from the 90’s. (I know it’s hard to pick just one, but you can do it!
There were a lot of big moments in the 90’s for me, but if I had to pick just one, I think it would be the night of our grade 12 grad dance (prom). It wasn’t the last great moment of high school, but I think it was one of the last wonderful and fleeting moments of youthful ignorance. One last golden hurrah, where the biggest problems of the day are getting your hair and your makeup done on time, and whether that shy boy is EVER going to ask you to dance. (He didn’t, I asked him.)

What album best captures the spirit of the 90’s for you?
An entire playlist would tell a more complete story, but REM Automatic for the People. (Then you can add on U2, Lauryn Hill, Beck, The Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, and Tori Amos)

What is your favourite 90’s TV show?
Buffy is my standard go to, but really? I LOVED Seaquest DSV, mostly because I was also wildly in love with Jonathan Brandis – that chin dimple *swoon*.

Summarize your experience of the 90’s in one sentence.
I want to grow up faster, I take it back, no I don’t, can we go back to high school?

If you could be a fictional character from the 90’s who would you be and why?
Rogue from the X-Men animated series. This is my favourite screen portrayal of her character, no offense Anna Paquin.
