This month’s theme is a nod to the reboot for one of our favourite series of all time, The Powerpuff Girls. As you all undoubtedly know, the Cartoon Network announced a few weeks ago that it plans to air new episodes sometime in 2016. While we wait to see what’s in store for the trio, let’s have some fun with a few sweet and spicy questions…

1) We know the Powerpuff Girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. If you were a tiny superhero, what would you have been made of?
2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
5) As for everything nice, let’s take a moment to salute those people who are real live superheroes either globally or on a personal level. Tell us about someone you admire for being made of everything nice, because those people make life a little bit brighter.

1) We know the Powerpuff Girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. If you were a tiny superhero, what would you have been made of?
Oh probably whimsy, marshmallow, sarcasm and cat hair.

2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
Bubbles. I was obsessed with the PPG in high school (my 18th birthday party was PPG themed) and I loved Bubbles for her imagination, childlike wonder, sense of fun, and ability to have all of those things while still kicking butt. I like that she made it cool to love coloring and rainbows but also to be tough when necessary.

3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
Southern Spice? I feel like Spice Girl names are best when they come from friends so what would y’all say?

4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
Sometimes I celebrate holidays with fandom-themed meals, but for when I need a little pick-me-up, I keep a Honeydukes jar on my windowsill with some nice chocolates. If I’m having a rough day, I remind myself that chocolate helps against Dementors and have a piece. Remarkably, this works much better than simply eating the chocolate: setting the “bad thing” into the context of a fandom I love makes everything better. (Wait, you want a spice, too? I put paprika on nearly everything, and quite often cayenne.)

Though her blog has been on hiatus for a few years now, I love what Melissa of Operation Nice set out to do: combat the negativity of online (and real) life with purposeful acts of niceness. She is a graphic designer and so gave out printable Nice Assignments she made herself. Two of my favorites are the 20 Things I Like About You list (which you print and fill out and send to someone) and the Kind Cards, which are printable business-sized cards you can leave in tip jars or wherever to brighten the day of someone who made your day better, too.

mulan-art

1) We know the Powerpuff Girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. If you were a tiny superhero, what would you have been made of?
Pixels, pokes, & really cheesy jokes.

2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
Confession time: the only television show I watched in that whole time frame was 24. I’ve never been a fan of the television way of having to tune in at a certain time & have the pacing chosen for you by forces beyond your control… so I was still watching my favorite old The Real Ghostbusters & TMNT episodes on VHS when my friends were watching Cartoon Network. However, Mulan did come out during that time frame, & she’s super great… that’s the closest thing I have to an answer for this question.

3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
Chai Spice

4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
Sweet treat: anything, cheesecake, brownie, or caramel. Spicy indulgence: chai tea. Comfy happy consumable: popcorn, rice with butter & cinnamon sugar, pizza, biscuits with butter & honey… mmmmmmm.

5) As for everything nice, let’s take a moment to salute those people who are real live superheroes either globally or on a personal level. Tell us about someone you admire for being made of everything nice, because those people make life a little bit brighter.
This might sound like a cop-out answer, but I find favorite real live superheroes everywhere. A whole lot of people come immediately to mind, from friends who have done extravagantly nice things for me, to strangers I’ve seen make super sweet choices for folk they’ll never know. So remember, you can be a hero any time you choose!

1) We know the Powerpuff Girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. If you were a tiny superhero, what would you have been made of?
Skulls, Cobwebs and Mashed Potato

2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
My favourite Powerpuff Girls character is a toss up between Buttercup and Mojo Jojo, I can’t narrow it down further than that. Other 90s cartoons I loved are Invader Zim, Ed, Edd and Eddy, Johnny Bravo and Dexter’s Lab.

3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
Satan Spice.

4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
I love food so this is going to be a tough one! For sweet treat I am going to choose sherbet as it is pure joy; for spicy, I love a good vegetable bhuna with loads of rice and chappattis and my one true love, the comfort food that works every time is mashed potato.

My mum – she is so lovely, generous and kind, I have never know such a wonderful human being with the patience of at least 3 saints.

Rhubarb, galaxies, and jazz hands.

2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
Blossom. I’m totally the organized and in-control one.

3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
Floral Spice

4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
I can’t chose. Um, brownies, tacos, hot and chocolate.

I can’t call you all out by name, but the entire IGGPPC community. Y’all are so amazing and inspire me to be a better person. I wish I could come to all your houses and give you all giant hugs!

professor-utonium

1) We know the Powerpuff Girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. If you were a tiny superhero, what would you have been made of?
Library dust, pumpkin pie and all the chunky sweaters of the world.

2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
My favorite is Professor Utonium. He is sweet, and smart, and silly. I like sweet, and smart, and silly.

3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
.. I was going to say Gingerbread Spice, but then I realized there already was a Ginger Spice. Geri, you are stealing my thunder!

4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
Sweet treat: eating honey straight from the jar. Spicy indulgence: does cinnamon count? I use a lot. Ultimate comfort food: oatmeal porridge (to be consumed on cold and dark Winter mornings).

My older brother, who has looked out for me every single day of my life. He is also pretty awesome in general, so there’s that.

1) We know the Powerpuff Girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. If you were a tiny superhero, what would you have been made of?
Definitely lots and lots of sugar, some caffeine, and a decent amount of cat hair.

2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
I love all the Powerpuff Girls but I’m definitely partial to Bubbles. She’s adorable, drags around her octopus plushie, and draws flowers and hearts everywhere.

3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
What pops up in my brain right away is Sparkly Spice…. I’m attracted to anything with a bit of glitter or shine.

4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
Sweet : any type of candy. I’m the person in 7-Eleven filling up little bags with candy and sneaking candy into the movie theatre.
Spicy: I cannot handle much heat-spice. So I’ll go with gingerbread cookies because they have a lot of spice in them.
Comfort: mashed potatoes and gravy… it reminds me of holiday meals which wraps me up in happiness.

My Nan is my superhero. She’s an amazing woman – caring, funny, smart, loving. She’s a wonderful woman to have at the top of our family tree.

1) We know the Powerpuff Girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. If you were a tiny superhero, what would you have been made of?
Science and tacos and Jeep parts!

2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
I adored Bubbles because of her love for animals and I love all the animals! She did annoy me a bit though, so I often gravitated toward Blossom a lot, too.

3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
Uhhhhh Science Spice? Hahaha I have no idea. I could totally see myself rocking out in a lab coat though.

4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
Sweet: Ice cream. Specifically Blue Bell. When are you coming back, my love?
Spicy: Sriracha. But to be more specific, there is a recipe I make all the time that’s roasted brussels sprouts with a caramalized sriracha vinegarette. THEY’RE AMAZING! I’m actually drooling as I write this.
Comfort: Chicken fried steak. Or fried chicken. Or fried pie. Anything fried comforts me. I’m from the South, y’all.

I don’t think I’m going to name anyone specific, but I definitely want to shout out to health care workers, especially nurses. I’ve learned a lot from being friends with a gal that’s training to become a nurse and there’s so much more to it than I ever knew! And those brave souls that go out and help people in serious need. I salute all of them! They do amazing work!

samurai-jack
1) We know the Powerpuff Girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. If you were a tiny superhero, what would you have been made of?
Giggles, Sunbeams, and the smell of new books

2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
I admit, I have never watched more than a handful of episodes of the Powerpuff Girls. Samurai Jack was a fave in the early 90’s, while the Animaniacs (and Dot especially) were my favourite to watch into the late 90’s.

3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
Bookish Spice, no doubt about it. I will also fully admit to knowing all of the lyrics to more than one of the Spice Girls songs.

4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
Black Forrest Cake is the most amazing dessert (even though it is VERY hard to pick just one). As for spicy? I am not one of the fortunate people who are able to eat varying levels of hell when it comes to spice intensity. However, I do love a good curry – palak paneer and aloo gobi are soooooo good! When it comes to comfort, if I have the time, a scaled down version of thanksgiving dinner with chicken (because I don’t normally have turkey in the freezer), cranberry sauce, stuffing and mashed potatoes will take me to a happy place of childhood memories in a way that no other foods can.

Today I will salute my grandmother. Relationships are complicated, full of equal measures of affection and frustration and the kinds of things that can only arise with a large generation gap. She was direct, and totally not politically correct. I admire that not only did she live her truth, she also loved everyone whether or not she agreed with them or they with her. Most importantly, she taught me that sometimes all people need is some home cooking and a lot of tenderness.

poweruff-art

1) We know the Powerpuff Girls were made of sugar, spice and everything nice. If you were a tiny superhero, what would you have been made of?
Japanese candy, baby goats, and eyeliner.

2) If you’re a fan of the Powerpuff Girls, who is your favorite character and why? If not, who was your favorite cartoon hero from the late 90’s or early 2000’s?
I was a huge fan of all of the Powerpuff Girls, because they all needed each other to get the job done! They are a tribute to sister-hood and friendship. Bubbles had my favorite personality, I admired Blossom’s ability to lead, and Buttercup cracked me up. They were a team that belonged together, because friendship is magic! I also loved Dexter’s Lab :3

3) Speaking of Spice, let’s have a flashback… If you had been a Spice Girl, what would you have been named?
Kawaii Spice! The live-action anime girl! She would have worn a cute Japanese school girl outfit and had an awesome transformation like Sailor Moon when she got on stage.

4) Food and beverages have always been an important part of fandoms, from fish-fingers and custard to the pan galactic gargle blaster. Name your favourite sweet treat, spicy indulgence and a consumable that brings you comfort and wraps you in happiness.
I’m partial to Japanese candy! It tastes amazing, and it’s usually packaged with adorable cartoon mascots like Peko-chan. Spicy food is my absolute favorite food, and I love Thai food like red curry, extra spicy! I also love spicy jambalaya. Anything with chili peppers, jalapenos, or hot sauce will rock my world. As far as something that brings me comfort… a go-to that always satisfies my tummy would be Caesar or Greek salads. Mmm mmm! Leafy goodness!

I would like to shout-out to my mom, sister, and aunt – they have stood by me and our family through thick and thick, and always show me what it means to be amazing, loyal, caring, and how to stick together in tough times. Love you guys!
