Hello hello, my dear Iggles! I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday season, with many laughs, gifts, friends, and family members involved. Sadly, the holidays are past, *boo hiss*, but I have some exciting news! So, for this month’s(slightly late) post, I decided to switch it up, and talk about something that is near and dear to my heart: our own book club on Goodreads. What, you say? The IGGPPC has a book club? Yes, yes, we do, and it’s some pretty exciting business.

The book club was formed in April of last year, and we’ve read lots of amazing books- a few of our picks have been The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, A Study in Scarlet, Divergent, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, and the first volume of Fables. We used to have one pick a month, but I’ve decided to shake things up a bit since I’ve taken my place as one of the moderators of the club- we’re going to read a series for a couple of months, while also still reading our monthly choice. Usually, we also have a theme each month- for example, December’s was Comic/Graphic Novel.

I’ve already picked the first series we will be reading for 2014….and it is the The Lotus War trilogy by Jay Kristoff, which starts off with Stormdancer. I’ll let the Goodreads description do the talking:

stormdancer

“Griffins are supposed to be extinct. So when Yukiko and her warrior father Masaru are sent to capture one for the Shogun, they fear that their lives are over. Everyone knows what happens to those who fail him, no matter how hopeless the task.

But the mission proves far less impossible, and far more deadly, than anyone expects – and soon Yukiko finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in her country’s last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled griffin for company. But trapped together in the forest, Yukiko and Buruu soon discover a friendship that neither of them expected.

Meanwhile, the country around them verges on the brink of collapse. A toxic fuel is slowly choking the land; the omnipotent, machine-powered Lotus Guild is publicly burning those they deem Impure; and the Shogun cares about nothing but his own dominion. Yukiko has always been uneasy in the shadow of power, when she learns the awful truth of what the Shogun has done, both to her country and to her own family she’s determined to do something about it.

Returning to the city, Yukiko and Buruu plan to make the Shogun pay for his crimes – but what can one girl and a flightless griffin do against the might of an empire?”

Japan? Steampunk? Mystical flying beasties? Can it get any better?! It also has one of the best covers I’ve ever seen. I’m super excited to read this book, and I hope more Iggles will join us!! Also, if you don’t have a Goodreads account, you can always read the book with us, and post your thoughts/comments/reflections on these posts I’ll be making, about which books will be our picks. Actually, you know what I’ll do? I’ll make a group on here also! That way, more people can participate. 😀

kinslayer

(Here’s the second book in the series, Kinslayer, which we’ll be reading next month. The last book hasn’t came out yet.)

We also still have to choose our monthly pick, and the poll is up, until Saturday, January 4. This month, I picked five past books that have been suggested: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle, World War Z by Max Brooks, and Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. So, get to voting! ^_^ I can’t wait to see which book wins.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friends!

P.S. I just recently found the He-Man Hey Ya! video on Youtube. If you haven’t seen this, you must watch this for optimal laughs. Also, my Art Attack post on Middle Earth shall be postponed, so I can make it as fantastic as possible. Go, watch it now.
