Hello again, lovely Iggles! noxy’s back, and happy to present day two of our IGGPPCamp Craft Challenges! Again, these Camp Challenges are different than our normal Craft Challenges because they’re tutorial styled – all you have to do is follow the how-to and cash in your achievement!

House Organa

Today’s challenge is a craft dedicated to House Organa! Come make Princess Leia headbands with me! 🙂

What you’ll need:
Organa Supplies

1.)  Brown Felt
2.)  Brown Yarn
3.)  Hot Glue Gun or strong glue like E6000
4.) Headband
5.) Scissors
6.) Ruler
7.) Something to draw a circle with

A note before we start. I chose brown because Leia’s hair is brown. You can feel free to use a color that might match your own if you’d like!

Step one: Cut two circles out of felt, approximately 5 inches in diameter. You can cut them smaller or larger, but this will be the base that your buns will be glued to, so make it as big as you want your buns to be.

cut strips
Step two: This is optional. I used a very plain band to make my Leia Headband, so I cut a strip of felt long enough to glue over the top of my headband. The strip I used had to be stretched in order to fit, but it fit! You can feel free to use a headband that matches your yarn/felt colors, or pick a pretty one. It’s all up to you!

twist strands
Step three: Get your yarn strands ready! This will be your “hair” for your headband.  I cut 30 strands of yarn for each bun. Each strand is 3 ft. long.  Tie all the strands together at one end with an extra piece of yarn, and then twist them!

glue swirl
Step four: Starting at the center of your felt circle, start gluing outward in a swirl pattern that works with the twist in the hair. You’ll want to make sure the ends of the yarn are tucked under the rest of the strands to hide them. I found it best to place an inch or so of glue, then, while twisting the hair, place that section down. That way, you can keep the hair twisted, and it won’t get too messy.

Note: If you’re not using a hot glue gun, you’ll have to hold your spot and wait until it’s dry.

tuck and glue
Step five: When you’ve got 2 inches or so left of your yarn twist, stop gluing. Secure that end with an extra piece of yarn, then fold those inches behind the felt. Glue in place. Trim away any part of the felt that’s visible from the front.

last step
Step six: Now you need to glue the bun to your headband. I used a piece of felt to help glue it down.

Repeat the bun process to make the other side. And voila! Your headband is complete!

Here I am, rockin’ my new Leia headband! As you can see, with thirty strands of yarn, my buns are pretty flat. If you’d like yours a bit thicker, you can add more strands during step three. 🙂
