In May we reported that Harry Shearer, voice of Mr. Burns and tons of other Simpsons characters, would be leaving the show, after negotiations over a new contract broke down. The issue, Shearer explained at the time, was not money, but being able to take on other work.

This week came the announcement that this problem had been resolved, with Shearer allowed to work on other projects, and record his Simpsons lines over the phone. The actor has in turn committed to two more seasons. While some fans had been intrigued by the notion of a Shearer-free Simpsons, it seems the show’s creators may have found him just a little too hard to replace.
