This week, in advance of the crazy nerd mecca event known as Comic Con, DC released a one-shot story about Harley Quinn – Harley Quinn Invades Comic-Con International San Diego. I know it’s not the first of the month, but I wanted to make sure you knew about this book NOW!
Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti out did themselves. This book is so much fun!
The story is all about that crazed, wacky girl attending her first Comic Con International San Diego and predictably chaos ensues. I loved this book! And as a veteran attendee of Comic-Con, I do have to say a lot of her antics don’t seem too far-fetched…
You have to love a book that accurately represents the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Con in a fantatically humorous way. Plus, Harley pantses (is that really a verb?!) an attendee dressed as Batman to find him wearing boxer shorts with her face on them.
She runs into a slew of girls all dressed as her for a night on the town, visits a certain establishment known for rude servers, and tries desperately to get her portfolio reviewed. I particularly loved the emotions she flies through while undergoing the nerve wracking process of having her work reviewed. It’s a classic display of physiological stages which all go out the door the moment she receives some feedback.
If you’ve ever been to Comic-Con, or any other large convention, you’ll love how much this book captures and you’ll wish you could react the way Harley does. And if you’ve never been to a big convention, I’m telling you to read this book and believe me when I tell you it actually isn’t that out of the norm.
Have you read it? What did you think?
