I got overwhelmed again, you guys- what can I say, the end of senior year is super, SUPER busy. From prom, to senior picnic, to putting together my first semester schedule for college; yeah, you can imagine. I only have one exam left, and then graduation- so I should be able to post regularly again.
Well, hello, Loki. If only this was Tom Hiddleston.
However, I’m back now, and ready to post again- and do I have some exciting news to share! This past Saturday, May 31, I got to attend my first con and, wait for it…..meet George R.R. Martin!! Luckily, my friend Jen had found out that ConCarolinas was hosting him, amongst some other famous guests, and my sister and I were able to tag along with her. ConCarolinas is hosted each year in Charlotte, NC, and “is a general multi-genre multi-media convention.” The dealers room was awesome, with anything you could possibly want- cosplay outfits, jewelry, artwork, tabletop games, books, and even leatherwork and weapons. I didn’t end up buying anything, but my sister got a Gandalf art print. The cosplay was fantastic too- obviously there were plenty of GoT characters roaming about (there was even a group of Cersei, Joffrey, King Robert, Melisandre, and Daenerys), but I also saw plenty of Stormtroopers, Doctors, steampunk lads and ladies, and even one woman dressed up as Sharknado. Yeah, that was something else.
Signature scribbly old man writing. 🙂
So, meeting Mr. Martin….we first went to a panel of his in the morning, where he discussed his shared world series, Wild Cards, and some of his other novels. Being the bad fan that I am, I didn’t even realize he had written anything else, but I’m definitely going to check his other works out. (Oops!) What was his personality like, you may ask? He’s a very sarcastic, funny man who likes to use the f word a bunch. Aka, he’s as awesome as we all thought. When I went to get my book signed, he was super nice, asking if I had enjoyed the con and how I was. I might have fangirled just a bit.
I didn’t get pictures with either of them, but I should have.
I also got to meet Carrie Ryan- she’s the author of one of my favorite series, The Forest of Hands and Teeth (yay, zombies!). If you haven’t already, check out her books. Overall, it was a great experience, and if you live close to Charlotte, you should check it out next year. No promises GRRM will be there, but you’ll have a blast!
Now, on to the artwork. I figured it was fitting to cover Game of Thrones this week, for obvious reasons. I was lucky enough to find some really pretty pieces- I hope you enjoy and maybe even buy one or two! Speaking of, I even got to meet one of the artists I had previously featured in my Doctor Who Art Attack post at ConCarolinas. He was pretty happy to hear that I had featured his artwork on the IGGPPC blog!
She has a bunch more Game of Thrones prints, too.
Pretty, yet simple enough that a guest unfamiliar with Game of Thrones would appreciate it, too.
Sometimes, different parts of pop culture come together to form amazing things. This Arya print is one of them.
Good typography is always a must.
You can’t buy this one, but I still thought it was cute….and we all know of Mr. Martin’s affinity for killing off characters.

Have a wonderful week, and comment below on which print is your favorite. 🙂
Hugs & Best wishes,
p.s. We figured out the mystery of the hat Mr. Martin always wears! It’s a Greek fisherman’s hat.
