star chartAt the Geek Girl Pen Pals Club, we love all of the amazing geeky creativity that the members in our community produce. I’m excited to showcase the lovely Amy of The Wandering Yeti this month. Not only is Amy an awesome geek girl, her shop is a beautiful showcase of geekery and graphic design.

Because she’s as sweet as her logo is, Amy was wonderful enough to take a moment to answer some questions for us.

What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever received?

Best piece of business advice I’ve ever received is to take risks. Jump into projects with both feet. Take the contract that seems like it might be on the edge of overwhelming. Push the creative envelope and challenge yourself. Occasionally, you might crash and burn, but at least you aren’t growing stagnant. And besides, even if something doesn’t turn out, you’ll either have a hilarious anecdote or a great cautionary tale.
What do you love most about the creative process?
My favorite part of the creative process is finding new sources of inspiration. It could be anything from a quote, to Japanese tattooing, to a piece of music. My only problem is that there aren’t enough hours in the day to create everything I want. My current project involves combining vintage landscape photography with hand drawn monsters!
What are your top geek loves this month?
Since the new season of Game of Thrones just started, that’s definitely a geek love this month. I love Tyrion! And anything that involves Tolkien, Arthur Conan Doyle or Victorian Gothic literature is always at the top of my list!
From the theme questions: What’s your favorite fantasy story and what’s so great about it?
My favorite fantasy story is definitely Dracula. It’s an amazing blend of creepiness, horror, and folklore imagery. I read it the first time when I was about 12 years old. The scene when Count Dracula crawls out of the window and down the face of the castle gave me nightmares for months! The fact that Bram Stoker and Arthur Conan Doyle were friends makes the whole thing even better…I love it when my geek worlds collide!
