Remember all those vampires, werewolves and ghosts that your parents told you weren’t real? The moving shadows under your bed and the creaks in your closet that were only figments of your imagination? Well in the world of Dean and Sam Winchester, they exist and they’re worse. Much, much worse.
Welcome to my absolute favorite fandom and my longest relationship ever!
When Dean and Sam Winchester were younger, their mother was murdered by a supernatural being. Fueled by vengeance, John Winchester starts to search for his wife’s killer, dragging his two sons into a dark world. While on the road, Dean and Sam quickly learn that the things that go “bump in the night” are real. Years later, while Sam is attending Stanford University and trying to move on from his old life, Dean reels him back into the paranormal world after their dad has gone missing on a “hunting trip.”
Sam quickly finds himself “saving people, hunting things” as they take care of “the family business.”
But do not think that the entire show just revolves around the Winchesters and their hunt for revenge. We are introduced to a variety of evil that ranges from vampires, werewolves and ghosts to demons, angels and witches. And I haven’t even mentioned the more unique monsters that emerge from lore all around the world.
Dean and Sam will go out of their way to protect people from all things bad, even if it jeopardizes their relationships with others, because in this business a “normal” life can never exist. These two brothers will literally die for each other, and luckily they have Bobby Singer who stops them from being total “idjits.” Bobby is like a father to the boys, and is also a fellow “hunter” who teaches them a thing or two about hunting. The relationship between them is something quite special and it shows you that “family don’t end with blood.”
Despite all seriousness of the hunt that must go on, plus fake ID’s, credit card fraud and cheesy motels, this show has hilarious moments that you will have on replay for a couple of hours. A rabbit’s foot, a cat in a locker, Groundhog day and a Trickster will have you laughing so much that your throat will feel it for a few days. Dean has a certain Batman bravado, and Sam’s sad puppy face will keep you smiling for a long time.
But for every laugh, know that there will be six times as many tears. This show will repeatedly break your heart, patch it up and tear it apart again. Your emotions will run high and you will question everything in life, yell at your TV screen, and shed tears of happiness and despair. The evil beings may not always be bad and the good ones could be devious.
If that doesn’t sell you, you will get to look at an amazing car and hear some awesome old school rock music by AC/DC, Metallica, Kansas and even Bon Jovi.
So carry on my wayward Iggles, and start binge watching the tale of two modern gunslingers trying to close the gates of Hell and save the entire world from damnation. It will also change your views and your use of salt.
