The casting directors for Marvel’s Daredevil have been busy. The series, which is available exclusively on Netflix, is preparing for its second season. Last month, it was announced that former “The Walking Dead” actor John Bernthal was cast as Marvel’s The Punisher. This week, it was announced that Elektra is also set to join Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox) in season two – which certainly means business is about to pick up in Hell’s Kitchen!
The character Elektra Natchios, who has been described as a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past, will be played by French actress Elodie Yung. The fierce, sai-wielding, trained assassin, anti-hero was originally created by comic book icon Frank Miller in the early 1980’s. Elektra first appeared in 1981’s Daredevil No. 168.
According to the announcement on Marvel.com, “After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”
As impressive as season one was, one can’t help but wonder just how much higher the bar will be raised by season 2 – particularly now that the woman who can be more than even the Man Without Fear can handle is coming to Hell’s Kitchen! Fans are now left with only one question – is it 2016 yet?
