It’s time for more superheroes!

CBS recently released a trailer for its upcoming new series Supergirl, which is scheduled to make its debut on Monday nights at 8 p.m. (9 p.m. CST) in November.

Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) came to Earth at age 12 with the infant Kal-El, both escaping the destruction of their home planet Krypton. She is one of the last living Kryptonians, and until this point had lived a “normal” life with her foster family. When we meet Kara, she is working as a go-fer for Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), the creator of media conglomerate CatCo.

Supergirl is based on the character previously seen in DC Comics, and the series is set to follow her from the age of 24, when she finally embraces the superpowers she has kept hidden from the world – the same superpowers that her cousin (Superman) is well known for. She exposes her abilities to the world when she saves a plane from a catastrophic crash, re-directing it into a river and saving the lives of those on board – including that of her foster sister, Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh).

After her decision to embrace her powers, Kara is approached by Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) – leader of a super-secret organization that fights assorted threats against the citizens of National City – for help. Kara finds out that it was her cousin’s hope for her to embrace this path all along, and use her powers for the greater good.

I’m pretty excited to see how her story plays out and how they handle the translation of the comic super-heroine to the small screen.

What do you think of the trailer? Is this a series you’re excited to see produced?
