For our last fashion foray of Superheroes and Supervillains month, we’re creating a look based on a modern favorite: Squirrel Girl! From her earth tone colors to her squirrel sidekick, she’s a super fun superhero to inspire an outfit!
Squirrel Girl: the character
Squirrel Girl AKA Doreen Green has a more than a slight affinity for squirrels. With her small furry sidekick, Tippy Toe, and a bit of a case of hero-worship for Iron Man, Doreen took on the identity of Squirrel Girl. She headed to New York to try and become an Avenger! Now with her winning reputation, she eats nuts and kicks butts! And it’s not just her personality that’s winning– her superpower means she can’t lose a fight.
Squirrel Girl: the look
For this look the color palette is really important. Though that is true for any everyday cosplay where you want to use color blocking to evoke the character, Squirrel Girl has some very distinct shades of brown that keep her costume looking dynamic without being the bright primary colors many heroes favor. To make this an everyday wear outfit I chose a dress in the appropriate shade of warm brown for the base, along with a pair of crushed velvet leggings to give the impression of some soft, squirrely fur. She wear a yellow utility belt to offset the brown, and a pair of fur or wool-lined boots, as well as a two-toned brown motorcycle jacket in this particular rendition. Add a cute pair of sparkly squirrel ears and a little squirrel side-kick necklace and the look is complete!
