Are you feeling a little villainous? Want to take your wardrobe up a level on the dark side? This week’s everyday cosplay look is inspired by fan favorite villain Loki Laufeyson!

Loki: the character

Loki Laufeyson may be one of the most popular villains of this decade. Thanks to his portrayal by Tom Hiddleson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki has secured a place among the most well known comic characters. He’s even become somewhat larger than his own source material. (Just search Tumblr and you’ll see what I mean.)

Loki is the adopted son of Odin, who took him in as an infant after defeating the child’s frost giant father. Odin’s father foretold that he would find the child of a fallen enemy, so Odin raised Loki as his own son, along with his biological son Thor. Even though he was brought up in Asgard, Loki resented the way everyone doted on Thor. It didn’t help how perfect Thor seemed to be in everything his did. Though they adventured together in their youth, the older they grew the more of a wedge emerged between them. Loki began learning sorcery to find ways to be better than his brother, and soon gained a reputation as a trickster and then an outright villain.

Loki: the look

To create a look inspired by Loki Laufeyson, I decided to use the film character so many people know and love. The first thing I noticed was the bold green in his costume. That color is consistent across every iteration of the character, so it needed to be prominent in the outfit. The skirt with the colorful stripe was a good find, too; it reminded me of the lower half of his costume even though the color isn’t exactly the same. Sometimes it’s okay to get the overall look without exactly matching–this is everyday cosplay after all, and not true cosplay itself!

The next thing I looked for was a good long trench coat to mimic the shape of his robe. Loki also wears two-tone boots that are a good staple in any wardrobe that sees cooler weather. The finishing touches were the accessories: cuff bracelets to evoke his bracers, a ring that’s reminiscent of his horned helmet, and a necklace with his staff as the charm. And there’s your everyday Loki Laufeyson!
