This month we’re “Playing With Pixels” so this everyday cosplay look is inspired by one of my favorite video game heroes– Lara Croft, the Tomb Raider!
Lara Croft: the character
Lara Croft is the protagonist of the Tomb Raider series of video games. She first appeared in 1996’s Tomb Raider, where she is introduced as an adventurous archaeologist of sorts, like a female Indiana Jones. She travels the world in search of rare artifacts, competing with rival archaeologists to be the first to the find. She’s also a survivor, fierce and intelligent. Lara can think her way out of many situations, but she’s also handy with her weapons when she needs to be.
Lara Croft: the look
For this everyday cosplay look, I chose the most recent version of Lara, from the 2013 reboot Tomb Raider and its sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015). Lara’s outfits have changed a lot over the years, and she’s gone from a pretty impractical pair of shorts with thigh-holsters to much more practical pants and a tank. I am a big fan of comfy closet cosplay, so this look is definitely one of my favorites. Start with a pair of cargo pants as your base; I’ve included both an olive green and a brown because really either work. A basic gray tank is all you need for a top, though you could layer another color like black or white under it to give it a little more of a “finished” look. Add a pair of brown lace-up boots and the main part of the outfit is complete. For accessories, I chose a malachite necklace that’s similar to the one she wears, as well as a cuff watch to evoke the arm and wrist bands she has. In a nod to her earlier incarnations’ penchant for pistols, I also included a pair of handgun earrings.
