A very merry greeting to you, iggles one & all! Ninja Val here, once again with joyous news of a shop worthy of your attention. There’s something there for your inner ninja, wizard, dragon, & so much more.

This etsy-based shop is called Eitanya Designs, & it features hooded scarves, fingerless gloves, hats, buttons, & more! Many are clearly inspired by a particular geeky source, which makes me so happy, but all are designed in such a way that anyone can appreciate the fine features & quality they offer.

Jo Roberts makes it all happen, & graciously granted us a chance to know her a little better. Here’s what she had to say!

———

How did Eitanya Designs get started?
I’m always making things, I can’t help it, but I didn’t really start trying to build that into a business until my health made “real” jobs problematic. I have Fibromyalgia, along with other related conditions, so being able to work from home and take time off when I need to became a big priority. It took time and being self-employed is more work than you think, but it has definitely been worth it!

Where do you take inspiration from?
It varies from moment to moment. Games, movies, TV, I’m a sucker for anything with great costume design. And Pinterest, I think a lot of us get too many ideas from there.

What are your current top 5 geek loves?
Star Wars (always), Dragon Age, Mirror’s Edge, Diablo 3, and anything with ninjas.

If you could have any pen pal, real or fictitious, who would it be and why?
I’d say Varric Tethras from Dragon Age. I imagine that would make for some great stories, though I’m not sure how much of them I would believe. 😉

You’ve done some great cosplay work! What’s your favorite cosplay you’ve seen, & what’s one you’d love to do someday?
Thanks! There are so many crazy-talented cosplayers out there, it’s hard to pick a favorite. Personally, Tyrael has been my “someday” project for a while, but I’m finally tackling that one.  I think my new cosplay ambition is Gypsy Danger from Pacific Rim.

What’s something new you’ve discovered that you think more of the geek community should try out?
Honestly, I’d say charity work. Last year I finally had the honor of joining the Rebel Legion and Mandalorian Mercs costume clubs, and using that to give back really puts things in perspective. So many people worry about “likes” and popularity, but making kids smile and actually making a difference for a good cause? Nothing is better than that.

Favorite quote?
“I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I’ve ended up where I needed to be.”  -Douglas Adams

Chocolate or vanilla?
Chocolate, all the way.

Who is your favorite Disney character?
Disney owns everything at this point, so that could include anyone, haha. Sabine is way up there, I love what Disney is doing with Star Wars so far. I’ve never been a princess kind of girl, so a female Mandalorian warrior with colorful hair and artistic flair was really exciting for me to see.  She’s my spirit animal.

But would I tell you to do your shopping at Eitanya Designs purely on the basis that the owner is pretty rad? No! Well, maybe actually yes! But I simply don’t have to, because we’ve also been granted the generous chance to review a Ninja Hoodie Scarf for you!

The first thing I did after trying it on (& maybe prancing/posing in front of my huge mirror for a minute) was show it off to my husband, who looked it over thoroughly then eagerly declared “I want one.” When we saw my brother-in-law a bit later, he had the same reaction. They each tried it on & looked great! It was a fun test of the appeal & versatility, which it passed easily.

My number one favorite thing about it is the softness. The product descriptions try to tell you that they’re soft & comfy, but I still wasn’t quite prepared for HOW soft & comfy! I wish you could reach through your screen & feel this. You’d feel it once because I offered it, then you’d feel it again because you can’t resist, & then you’d click over to the shop to plan what you can purchase & when. That’s how soft it is. It’s like a travel-friendly snuggly cave of comfort.

Another element with which I was impressed is the evident sensibility & durability. I’d feel confident rockin’ this in my day-to-day adventures, unafraid of unreasonable wear & tear. The care instructions are simple, clear, & included on the adorable professional sewn-in tag; you don’t even have to be literate in laundry symbols or refer back to the website. Handy dandy! It may be so very super soft, but it’s not flimsy.

I love the array of options afforded by the different styles & colors available! The bold colorblocking & shaping of the different choices really lend themselves to casual (or not so casual?) cosplay. I’d love to see the variations iggles could create! Hipster Link? Ninja Cinderella? Ravenclaw Twilight Sparkle? Space Commander JimBob? I’m excited to express my ninja love at Indy Pop Con this weekend in mine!

In summation, I’m quite confident that just about anyone could like just about anything from Eitanya Designs, & a lot of people would indeed be very much delighted over some of the things in particular. She has also set up a coupon code “GEEKGIRL” for 15% off anything in the shop, so even if you don’t win the giveaway, you’re all winners!  (Code valid through July.)
