Some days you just need some Nightmare before Christmas in your life, but you don’t always have the time. This cake is easy to make and is perfect for Halloween, Christmas, or even someone special’s birthday!
For the Cake:
1 Box Vanilla Cake Mix (and ingredients required to bake it)
100g Sour Cream (Optional)
For the Strawberry Sauce:
250g Strawberries (Sliced)
70ml Castor Sugar
1 Whole Vanilla Pod
For the Decoration:
1 Tub Vanilla Icing
Piping bag and small round nozzle
Icing sugar for sprinkling
1 Packet of Black Fondant
Black Food Coloring
Pretty black decorations such as roses, butterflies, eyeballs, pumpkins etc.
Let’s get started!
For the cake, preheat the oven as stated on the cake mix box. Add and mix the ingredients thoroughly. I like to add 100g sour cream to make it super moist.
Pour the mixture into two small round pans or one large round pan. I prefer to use one large round pan.
For the strawberry sauce, add the strawberries, water, castor sugar, and vanilla pod to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes and remove the vanilla pod. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow to cool. Be careful not to spill any on yourself! You are going to love the aroma that fills your kitchen with this strawberry sauce!
Draw your favorite Jack Skellington eye on a piece of paper and cut it out. Sprinkle some icing sugar on the surface where you are going to roll out your fondant. Roll out your fondant to a preferred thickness. Place your template on the fondant and cut out the shape with a knife or fondant cutting tool.
Using a spatula, cover the cake with the frosting. I used about 3/4 of the tub. Add the black food coloring to the remaining frosting and scoop into a piping bag. Draw Jack’s spooky smile onto the cake. Draw two small lines for his nose. Add his fondant eyes. Add any other decorations to the side of the cake.
It might not be Halloween, but everybody scream. Won’t ya please make way for a very special guy and hail to the Pumpkin King!
