For the cake, preheat the oven as stated on the cake mix box. Add and mix the ingredients thoroughly. I like to add 100g sour cream to make it super moist.

Pour the mixture into two small round pans or one large round pan. I prefer to use one large round pan.

2015-06-29 09.42.13Bake the cake for the instructed time on the box.

2015-06-29 12.36.58Wait for the cake to cool before removing from the pan. If you used the large pan, make sure the cake cooled completely before cutting the cake in half.

2015-06-29 09.38.19For the strawberry sauce, add the strawberries, water, castor sugar, and vanilla pod to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes and remove the vanilla pod. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow to cool. Be careful not to spill any on yourself! You are going to love the aroma that fills your kitchen with this strawberry sauce!

2015-06-29 09.40.00Now for the decorating process!

Draw your favorite Jack Skellington eye on a piece of paper and cut it out. Sprinkle some icing sugar on the surface where you are going to roll out your fondant. Roll out your fondant to a preferred thickness. Place your template on the fondant and cut out the shape with a knife or fondant cutting tool.

20150628_192924Be sure to do this twice so you have two eyes!

20150628_193142If you have Halloween cookie cutters, you can cut out out more shapes to decorate the sides of the cake with!

20150628_192055Put the strawberry sauce on the bottom layer of the cake and place the top layer on it.

2015-06-29 12.37.32Using a spatula, cover the cake with the frosting. I used about 3/4 of the tub. Add the black food coloring to the remaining frosting and scoop into a piping bag. Draw Jack’s spooky smile onto the cake. Draw two small lines for his nose. Add his fondant eyes. Add any other decorations to the side of the cake.
