Hello, Whovians! Whovian-iggles? Whov-iggles?

Series 8 is upon us, and Peter Capaldi flies the T.A.R.D.I.S. for the first time on August 23. Who’s up for a Twitter watch-along party with me? I’ll be hanging out on my main account @joannavolavka so feel free to join in! I’ll be using #iggleWho if you want to find us!

I’m STOKED about Peter Capaldi and excited to see where this new version of the Doctor will take us. Word is it’s supposed to get a little darker, a little grittier, and am I ever ready. If this is your first regeneration, I know it might feel difficult at first to watch someone else at the control panel of the T.A.R.D.I.S. You never forget your first Doctor, the saying goes. Happily you don’t have to pick just one. Why choose when you can have the Doctor, always the Doctor, regardless of his face? He is young and old and fierce and kind and complex (and written by more writers than I can wrap my head around).

I do want to propose something, though: in the spirit of tradition, instead of referring to Capaldi’s Doctor as “Twelve,” I will be calling him just that: Capaldi’s Doctor. I will also be referring Smith’s Doctor and Tennant’s Doctor and so on. It’s how they did it in the old days and it works for me. After all, it’s still always the Doctor. ^_^

Full disclosure: I’ll be watching from California, to coincide with the 8pm, US Eastern Timezone showing (which is at 5pm my time). The official airtimes have been hard to locate online, though I have heard in the UK it’s airing on BBC One at 7:50pm local. If you have other times to watch, let me know and I will post them below.

That being said, please don’t purposefully spoil it for anyone watching later. I know I’ve avoided the leaked scripts and many others have, too. Don’t forget to be awesome when posting online, y’all.

AND if you are New to Who and want to join in the fun, the start of a new regeneration of the Doctor is the perfect time! Check below the programming schedule for 50 facts to know about our favorite Time Lord!
