Hello, Whovians!

Are you as excited as I am for the new series (season) of Doctor Who? Join me THIS SATURDAY, September 19th, at 9pm EDT/8pm CDT for a live watch along of The Magician’s Apprentice during the US premiere.

I wish I could watch with all of you, but unfortunately the BBC only seems to do world simulcast viewings for fiftieth anniversaries and the like. Ah well.

Here’s what we know, thanks to the BBC’s lovely website:

Where is the Doctor? When the skies of Earth are frozen by a mysterious alien force, Clara needs her friend. But where is the Doctor, and what is he hiding from? As past deeds come back to haunt him, old enemies will come face-to-face, and for the Doctor and Clara survival seems impossible…

If you don’t know, the BBC also likes to put web exclusive content out before the new series, or even between episodes. It’s never critical to understanding the plot to see these bits, but it can add depth and give you just a little glimpse of what’s to come. So if you haven’t yet, check out the Prologue to series 9:

I am completely intrigued by where this series will go. While I haven’t enjoyed the show as much in the last couple of years, I do love Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. He reminds me of the Classic Who era in a way that I didn’t realize how much I wanted. And I’m finding this look to be pretty tantalizing:

What’s he doing with that guitar? I keep holding out hope for the writers to help Jenna Coleman out by giving Clara some better dialog and development. She’s a character I really dig in theory but less so in execution. Maybe this series will give her a little more edge now that she’s gone through her heartbreak and come out the other side. There is also a fairly solid rumor that she’s leaving at the series finale, which will open up a whole new can of worms for a new companion to come after her.

Other things I’m looking forward to this season include the return of the Master aka Missy (in the first two episodes no less!) and the return of River Song in the Christmas special. I’m curious to see how her relationship with Capaldi’s Doctor will go.
