DC Entertainment has entered a new era expanding their universe into several different television series on network television. As a huge fan of DC Comics, I’m excited to see some of my favorite characters and story lines depicted weekly on the small screen. Let’s recap and discuss what happened last week for DC on TV. This week the only new episode of DC on TV we had was iZombie. But it sure was a good one. We learned more about zombies and Blaine’s plans and we get some developments in Liv’s life and all is centered on a message about having to hide your true self. Let’s talk about it:
I griped a little last week about the last couple episodes not feeling quite as fabulous as the pilot. I didn’t make too much of a fuss because there’s always a learning curve with new shows until they really settle into a groove. This week, iZombie got its groove back.
We begin with Blaine and Jackie (that woman he turned and told her he’d provide her constant brains for $25K a month). She suggests that being his booty call should get her a discount. He responds with “Oh Jackie, I made you a zombie, but I’d never make you a whore.” We move into a voiceover from Liv talking about finding the special someone, and watch Blaine and Jackie living a seemingly normal life though with a lot of work from aestheticians. It’s sad and begins this theme of the episode with hiding your true self.
Moving on, Liv is offering a mea culpa to Major (while he’s looking amazing in the towel) and then sees his new girl, in a t-shirt and drinking coffee. Liv doesn’t quite react well to it and her reactions get even more amusing after she eats the brains of a dead Blue Cobra gang member with paranoid tendencies.
We get amusement from Liv’s brother visiting the morgue.
And of course some more great lines from Ravi. But things get interesting when Liv has a vision of Clive participating in a gang beating. When Clive tells Liv to stay away from the case, it heightens her paranoia (thanks to Sammy) and makes her think he’s a dirty cop. So, she decides to investigate herself and ends up right in the middle of a mess involving the Blue Cobras. Ravi tries to tell Liv she’s overreacting and to trust Clive.
“Just because I’m paranoid doesn’t mean there’s not some strange stuff going out there.”
Then we move on to see what Blaine’s been up to. Turns out, he’s got his own restaurant, Meat Cute, and a delivery service. Anyone else wonder what gets served to non-zombie clientele when they wander in? We also discover what happened to the kids Major knows from the shelter. Clearly, the ‘cool kicks’ are going to help unravel that story. The eventual encounter between Liv and Blaine when she discovers this is bound to be epic. Especially after witnessing the way that she handles the intruder in her house, which she explains away to Clive (who is NOT a dirty cop) with lots of college self-defense classes.
“I could pretty much take out batman with a spiral notebook and a student ID card.”
- How much did you love seeing Ravi and Major geek out over Diablo 3?
- Apparently, zombies can be frozen into a hibernation type state and then defrosted without harm(?).
- “Should I be concerned that whatever you’re about to do requires gum?” Ravi to Liv before entering the Blue Cobra clubhouse/video store.
Next week we get all new episodes from Gotham, The Flash, Arrow, and iZombie. We’re on the home stretch for this season. Will you be watching?
