Get ready for even more sugar, spice and everything nice (and a dose of Chemical X for old times’ sake) because the Powerpuff Girls are making their way back to the small screen. The voice cast will be mostly newcomers to the show, featuring Amanda Leighton as Blossom, Kristen Li as Bubbles and Natalie Palamides as Buttercup, with the original series’ Tom Kenny reprising his role as the Mayor/Narrator. The new show will premiere next year with Nick Jennings and Bob Boyle as executive directors. The reboot will mostly hearken back to the original we all know and love with character design almost exactly the same, with a few minor tweaks – check out some of the first promo images below.
However, not all is right in Townsville. After the announcement, the original voice actresses took to Twitter with their disappointment over the news. Catherine Cavadini (Blossom), Tara Strong (Bubbles) and Elizabeth Daily (Buttercup) all tweeted about their reactions, later on stating that they had never been contacted to reprise their roles. Here are a few of the tweets.
I wish the new girls well but Wow! does this hurt my heart:( https://t.co/OzchpdAXFR

Series creator Craig McCracken, who is also not involved with the reboot, seems to stand with his original voice actresses, tweeting an image of the three together with the caption “These were the ingredients chosen…”.

While none of the tweets seem to be especially spiteful, just shocked (Strong even tweeted she has no ill feelings for the new actresses), one worries how the original show members’ feelings will affect the new up and coming voice actresses taking their roles- will they be trolled unnecessarily by fans who take the original actors’ messages in a wrong way? In my opinion, I agree with both sides – Strong, Cavadini and Daily should have all at least been given the option to reprise their roles, but they’re all well respected and well known actresses in the field (especially Strong). It will be nice to see voice actresses just starting out in the field given a chance to make it big with a show that already had a popular first interpretation, and hopefully the original ladies will realize this, too. In the end, we can only hope for the best. What are your thoughts on the situation? Are you excited for the reboot? Who was your favorite Powerpuff Girl?
