Last week director James Gunn revealed the name of the sequel to follow his incredibly successful Guardians of the Galaxy movie –  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

No, I haven’t left anything out, that was literally the title he released; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Though not very imaginative, there’s no doubt in my mind that this is a reference to the Mix Tape Star Lord receives at the end of the movie. Unfortunately, we won’t find that out until the film’s release in 2017. Booo..! That’s ages away, I know, but have no fear; we will be able to get our GOTG fix earlier than you think.

Marvel has just released a poster for their upcoming animated Guardians series, along with some info about the show, which includes a release date. According to IGN, the series will officially premiere Saturday 26th September on Disney XD, however we will get a sneak peek at the first episode on 5th September.

That’s not all though. Disney XD will air five animated shorts throughout August for each of the main characters; Star-Lord, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, and Gamora. They will broadcast as two part episodes every Saturday, starting at 8.58pm.

The series itself follows the newly formed Guardians of the Galaxy, as they find an artefact holding a treasure map that leads to the Cosmic Seed – a weapon that will give birth to a brand new universe. Their mission is to find and destroy the Cosmic Seed, keeping it from the likes of Thanos, the collector, and even Loki.

So are you guys excited to see what’s in store for this ‘bunch of a-holes’? Check out the poster below for a glimpse of the handsome bunch. ‘We’re Back, You’re Welcome’
