On Saturday, NYCC fans were treated to a special X-Files panel featuring the North American premier of the new mini-series’ first episode and a talk back with Chris Carter, David Duchovny, and Mitch Pileggi. A die hard fan since I was twelve, this was by far the highlight of the convention for me, and I’m excited to say – it did not disappoint. Sorry, you’ll get no spoilers from me, but here are the five things that make me wish it was already January 24th!

1. The Lone Gunmen are BACK!

During the panel at NYCC a fan asked about the fate of our favorite trio. Chris Carter confirmed that they will make an appearance in the series, though they were not around in the first episode. I have a feeling some other familiar characters might be lurking around as well…

2. So are Monster of the Week Episodes

According to Carter, the six episode series will open and close with episodes about the mythology we all know and love, but the episodes in between will be stand alone and are written by X-Files alums Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan, and James Wong.

3. There are Amazing Guest Stars

We were introduced to Annet Mahendru (I LOVE her in The Americans) and Joel McHale’s characters in the first episode, but the series will also feature Robbie Amell (pictured above with Gillian Anderson), Lauren Ambrose, Rhys Darby, and Kumail Nanjiani – who was absolutely adorable as the moderator for the NYCC panel.

4. And Nods to the Original Series

In the first few minutes of the episode, we got a recap and reintroduction to the characters and the events leading up to now. There are plenty of passing mentions to past happenings, but the story stands on its own – which is great if you are planning to watch with someone who is new to the show.

5. Two Words: Mark Snow

That’s right. Reprising his role as series’ composer, Mark Snow is back to score the mini series with the familiar eerie tones we all know and love. If you’re like me and get chills during the opening theme, get very excited for January.

Which leads me to believe – the truth is still out there.
