Why you Should Sign up for G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S.

Wait, what the heck is G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. you say?!

The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen happens every Summer during the first week of August to raise a little mayhem in the hopes of bringing “death to normalcy” whilst spreading kindness! I wrote up this informational post last year, and am here again to remind you all to sign up because August will be here before you know it!

Be a Part of Something Inspiring

At a time when the world could use just a little bit more positivity, (and all the love it can get), this is the perfect opportunity to join a team with your friends and family. Plus, it would make Misha Collins (better known as Castiel from the t.v. show Supernatural) really happy!

Last year’s event managed to raise over $200,000 for Syrian refugee families in need, which you can read about here. In previous years, GISHWHES has broken at least five world records, including one for biggest photo album of the hugs from around the world!

It’s a great Conversation Starter

Be honest: what are you REALLY doing with your summer this year that you will be excited to tell all your friends about once you are back in school? Does it involve dressing up as a ‘dessert fairy’ to deliver ice cream to your local firefighter department? Or making a gown out of construction paper?

GISHWHES is great for Iggles who love making new friends from all over the world, dressing up (there are usually always good cosplay opportunities!), love making art, and performing random acts of kindness. Literally ANYONE can take part in the fun: whether you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert, artistic and wild, or not – there is something for everyone. It’s right up the Geek Girl Pen Pals’ alley! And it would make for the best conversation starters!

So now that you’ve read SOME of the reasons why you should join in, here’s how to do it!

How To Sign Up

Simply visit the official GISHWHES website to register: www.gishwhes.com – at the time I’m writing this, there are a little over two weeks left before registration closes!

There is a small registration fee, (about $20), but don’t let that discourage you. If you are genuinely broke, you can sign up for a ‘scholarship’ option and wait for a kind soul to gift you with a membership.

Then what?

If you successfully registered and aren’t currently waiting for a scholarship, send email invites to all of your friends and family to create your own team of fifteen. You can come up with your own silly team name, too, which is (almost) half the fun 😉

When you have your awesome team, (or even if you are waiting to be placed in a team with other awesome peeps from around the world), wait till the morning of August 5th when our supreme overlord Misha posts his insane list of over 100 ‘tasks’ that your team can do! Once the list goes live, go nuts! You will have one full week to accomplish as much as you can, and you are free to do as much or as little as you want.

Take lots of photos! Have fun! Follow the rules carefully so that no one is disqualified! After the week is up, the judging begins. It takes a while for them to get through the thousands of submissions, but you will have the opportunity to help judge some of the items. The winning team gets to go on a trip to Hawaii with Misha Collins this year!

Sounds good but I still have Questions!

No problem! The GISHWHES website has a great FAQ for you to consult here.

There is also this great video you can watch and share:

Still unsure? Feel free to tweet/DM me @whimsyandnoir

I hope lots of you sign up! Have a great Summer, Iggles!
