OwlCrate January 2018: Fearsome Fairy Tales **Spoilers**

theme card, pin, and box guide

This month’s OwlCrate, Fearsome Fairy Tales, was highly anticipated and sold out in record time back in mid-December. With shows like Grimm, Once Upon a Time, and books like Wicked, the mysterious twist on the fairy tale has certainly become a classic plot of the modern era. The crate opened with three items that are present in all OwlCrate boxes, your spoiler card and pin, and a new staple of the OwlCrate box, your box guide. This booklet is an amazing edition to the box featuring author and maker interviews, games, book recommendations and social media opportunities!

wax burner and wax

January OwlCrate: what’s inside

The first and largest item in the box was a beautiful black ceramic burner, exclusively designed by OwlCrate. Featuring star and moon cutouts, this burner will work perfectly essential oils or wax melts. So we are super lucky that we were also treated to some delicious smelling wax melts from Spireside Candles. While the wax melts themselves aren’t exclusive to this OwlCrate box, this Hansel and Gretel themed gingerbread scent is. I’m not a huge fan of gingerbread, but taking a whiff of this candle make me want to go and bake some.

rapunzel braclet and maker information

One of my favorite items in this box was the leather bracelet with the Rapunzel text charm from Authored Adornments. Again, this specific design was crafted exclusively for OwlCrate subscribers, featuring a beautiful faux leather band and text from the Rapunzel fairy tale! This item will blend in seamlessly to your Rapunzel Disney-Bounding outfit!

little red riding hood art print and sleeping beauty pillow case

Next we received a beautiful print from Anne Lambelet depicting Little Red Riding Hood (from the self titled book) making her way through the forest with the larger than life wolf behind her. I think the artwork in this print perfectly sets the tone for this month’s theme. The last item (before the most anticipated item) is a exclusive and luxurious pillowcase form Stella’s Bookish Art. The Sleeping Beauty themed pillowcase will be sure to lull you to sleep just like Aurora.

The Cruel Prince

Book, sticker, and letter montage

Included in this box is a signed copy of The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Not only is your OwlCrate copy signed but it also features a cover design that is exclusive to OwlCrate. Without giving too much away, The Cruel Prince is the story of a young girl who is abducted by fairies after the murder of her family. The tale that ensues is of her struggles later as a member of that society. I’m pretty excited about this book as it sounds a little bit like the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, which is one of my absolute favorites. Included with the book: a letter from the author and a sticker!

January OwlCrate box contents

All in all, I think this was a great box. OwlCrate has really stepped up their game in bringing its subscribers not only well crafted items, but exclusive ones at that, and exclusive printings of books with valuable insights from the authors. They continue to curate high quality and desirable items that their subscribers will be sure to love.
